I am looking at getting rid of my old disco this year or next and getting something abit smaller and less heavy on the fuel but able to tow with also. I am likely to be towing only one horse at a time! and in something like a ifor 505 or equivalent.
I am looking at the new shape 2.2 outlander. does anyone have one?

Not about the mitsubishi - sorry, but:
I was looking for something similar; a car with good fuel efficiency, plenty of boot space, and optional 4wd BUT with enough towing capacity to tow one horse in an IW 505/6 trailer, mainly short journeys, on-road and max once weekly (less in winter). I needed good fuel economy, as the new car had to be used for work/school/yard runs (currently have VW Polo 1.4TDI) and I clock up about 18,000 miles per year.
A "proper" 4wd is unnecessary, and too expensive to run.
I have gone for a VW Tiguan. It has a good enough towing capacity, good reputation for reliability, and 40-50mpg fuel consumption.
There are a couple of other posts on this forum where the VW Tiguan is mentioned.

Feel free to PM me.

Good Luck!!

i recently got one and i love it towed trailer empty loads and you dont even no its there and is great only had time to put horse in it once as not had trailer long either and so far no prob at all

i like the look of the vw's but as it is a VW its abit out of my price range! Im also looking at the hyundai Tucson, im going to go out and have a test drive of some of them.

Whilst doing my research I found lots of people who were very positive about the Hyundai Santa Fe. Very good towing capacity, very roomy and have a long warranty. I don't know about the Tuscon, though.
I found the website on towing horse trailers (can google it) to be extremely helpful.
Good luck!

Yes! Have 54 outlander, which is an automatic and runs on LPG for about 50 mpg. Tows beautifully and never had a single problem in the three years I have owned it. As a permanent 4 wheel drive it will get through tyres slightly quicker, but nonetheless is a fantastic car. However watch the towing weight though!

The only downside is that it has a rubbish turning circle!
