I have towed with my Ford Ranger pick up for the last 10 years and love it! I think it is 2.4 diesel. I usually have a 14.2 and 15hh cob x in it and have done 150 mile plus journeys in it. The most, I have towed is two 16.2hh horses for a local 5 mile journey but as they were TBs, they probably weighed the same as my two girls :)

navara ! used to have RR disco3s and LR . Navara is a lot more stable with a trailer on though than any of the others.
They have a 2.7ton towing limit but we regulkarly tow 4t with ours ( it has been modified and plated to do so) Both the Ranger and Isuzu now have a 3.5T towing limit as standard out of those two the ford would be my preference every time!

We have a Nissan pick-up, tows 3 tonne but my husband wants to get something that will tow 3.5 tonnes. To be honest, I would not have one again, in full lock we get a terrible clunking noise and it's not an old vehicle. We're not sure what to get next, husband wants a Defender but I think he will struggle as he is tall and there is not a lot of leg room in them.

Yep got fed up with the disco keep braking down (disco 3 bought new!). Limp mode on a motorway is not fun with 2 horses in the trailer! So went and chopped it in for a new L200 . Much different to the old one. Excellent lock and plenty of power to tow the trailer, 3 tons. Economical enough to use for everyday driving (can get 35mpg on a roads, disco was about 25mpg on a good day!) Doesn't mater about chucking muddy stuff or hay in the back if needed. The best thing being it is now nearly 3 years old and hasn't had any mechanical problems, touch wood. Only downfall as with most pickups is when not towing they can be "light" on the backend so no speeding around roundabouts especially in the wet!.

Yes. Isuzu rodeo. 3L 3 ton tow. Lost count of the number of 500+ mile journeys I've done in it towing an equitrek show trekka. It never lets me down.

In my experience they are fine for towing, do the job ok but I wouldn't choose one over a normal decent size 4x4, they just aren't as nice to drive or to tow with

Im on my 2nd Hilux. Had the 2.5l and now have a new 3.0l. I was quite happy with how the 2.5 towed but now I have the bigger engine it’s a dream, don’t even know the trailer is there. Love my hilux’s , only downside to them is they are rated at 2.8T towing capacity whereas some of the others are now 3.5T. 2.8 is plenty for us though. It’s fab to drive day to day too :)

Hilux, very hard to beat especially the 3litre one which I have. Would not know the trailer was on it most of the time, also great for carrying all the gear in the back. Would never go back to a normal 4x4 now.

We have two pickups that we tow with. A Dodge Ram 6L and a GMC 6.6L diesel. Ours are both 4 doors so still have the niceness inside but have the huge outside boxes for stuff. Our horse trailers are much bigger over here than you have in the UK so we need trucks with a lot of grunt. In the UK we had Range Rovers and they're lovely but I much prefer the pickups tbh as they're so much more useful for putting all your gear/hay/etc in when going to shows.

I am looking at buying a Ranger next year so nice to hear the positive stories about them .....unlike Jeep......
we are on our 3rd ranger..all trouble free.they come in 2.2 and 2.9 engines on the new models. The last one we had was a 2.5 thunder..theres quite a wait on the wildtrak and 2.9s..but worth it!

Quite right..sorry the new one is the 3.2...sure the old one was 2.9 though...could be wrong..maybe 2.5?. Oh didnt want to go down to the 2.2..not enough power for towing was his excuse..the new ones are much nicer inside.on the down side they are huge!

Love, love, love my Isuzu Rodeo. Really comfortable to drive and simply a "beast" but would be lost without the reversing camera. I've got a back on the pickup bit which is fab for dogs and assorted other mucky stuff. OH has a Hilux which is indestructible and probably has a bit more va va voom than the Isuzu but it also can be a bit more giddy to drive when not in 4 wheel drive but is great when 4x4 is engaged, bucket loads of towing power. Son has a Navara great car lots of bells and whistles on it but a lot less robust and has had a few mechanical issues but it does tow great.

Ranger 2.5 thunder (2005)- you have to watch you don't forget the trailer's behind you! Love it! Great for day to day driving too and not too heavy on the juice.
