I don't know much about Volvos but this is an all electric one. I'd be looking to tow an Ifor 510 that is about 18 years old (not sure of weight, presume it is on a plate somewhere on the trailer? I think it might be heavier than the newer models that I can look up online) plus one horse of around 650kg. My guesstimate of total weight on minimal research is around 2000kg.
Thoughts welcome! I've just started thinking about this, won't do anything for many months so if I'm way off please be gentle with me! Have always had Land Rovers so weight has never been an issue!

I wouldn't even consider it. The weight limit it between 1500kg -1800kg depending on the model, single or twin motors, and the range is abysmal when towing, think less than 100 miles.
You also need to unhitch the trailer to fit the fast charger if its located at the back of the car.
The ridiculous purchase cost is hard to justify unless you have home solar, home battery storage and a flexible electricity tariff.
Cheaper to buy a newer runabout and on older 4x4 just for towing.
Or a top spec secondhand diesel toureg, volvo or the like and keep it forever.

The trouble with having two is that the tow vehicle tends to sit about a lot, doing nothing, which isn't good for it. That's the system I have at the moment.
I do have solar, battery and EV tariff. The other option is a hybrid but the ones in my sort of price range only seem to have around a 30mile range on electric and ideally I need around 60.
Recommendations welcome!

I've got a 23 plate volvo xc40 recharge and would never, ever consider towing with it.

For starters their towing capacity is 1500kg. Your trailer (my 511 is 1000kg) and horse are already over that limit. If you upgraded to the twin motor you'd get 1800kg towing capacity. Still a hard no.

As an aside my car gets absolutely useless range. If fully charged it the other day and got 180mile range. The dropped to 160 ten mins later because it was cold.

During the summer a full charge would be 200 miles. Still absolutely rubbish and it drops quickly. I'd maybe make it to the end of the drive if it was towing.

It's a company car, a very bad decision on my part to sell my 18 plate kia and swap my car allowance for a company car. Huge regrets.

I did end up buying another Kia Sportage to tow with. I drive it most of the time and only use the electric for driving in Edinburgh city centre because it's sat nav is better and the roadworks are awful.

Just absolute no to towing. Mine got stuck in a soft verge. It's nippy but no guts like a diesel, and no clutch either!

It's the being electric part that's the problem, not the brand. OP wants to tow with an electric car 🙅🏼‍♀️
Whoops missed that!

No I wouldn’t!! We have a Volvo xc40 electric too and it’s ok…but would never dream of towing with one, or any electric 4x4 as the range would just disappear instantly!
