Sorry for posting this again, but yesterday's post under a slightly different title got no replies

surely someone on here must use a myler bit with the hooks/slots? If so, can you please tell me if your reins sit properly when you use the slot for the reins? I have a slotted eggbutt and the reins don't seem to sit quite right when they are attached to the bottom slot, instead of being nice and flat they seem to 'snag' near the bit. I am worried that somehow I have got the bit fitted wrong, although goodness only knows how

Thanks again

Hiya, is your bit the right way up, with the holes for a curb being on the top slot? Also reins should be fastened to the outside? Sorry if that is a daft question! When i used one it always sat in a slight 'curve' when i didnt have a contact. This is totaly normal

I haven't used one but I have seen one being used and the reins obviously sat at a funny angle when no contact was being taken. When the rein had a contact the reins didn't snag but they did seem to sit at a funny angle as one side took more pressure than the other, if that makes sense

Not sure you can fit em wrong, the myler doesn't sit as high as a traditional bit so you should only have 1 little wrinkle on the mouth when it's at rest.

Thanks, sounds like it is the same as other people have experienced, a slight curve which just seems/looks a bit odd. I will see if I can get some pics when I go up tonight.

Saddlesore, no not daft to ask if it's the right way up, but thankfully it seems I got that bit right - phew!

Have to say that I have the bit quite high (a couple of wrinkles) as when it is lower the cheekpieces on the bridle seem to bulge out when I take a contact - more pictures required I think!

Really want to get it sorted correctly as George does seem to like the bit!

George does dressage, flatwork etc in a myler mullen mouth hanging cheek which he goes very well in, but we do need a few more brakes for jumping, hence the slotted eggbutt with the option of a curb.

I use a mullen triple barrell full cheek myler with one hook for the reins. My reins sit nicely and flat, no curve showing. The reins need to be fitted, as said above, with the rein on the outside of the bit, so you shouldn't see the whole of the bit ring when looking at it from the side.

I have a eggbut with slots and the reins dont snag - it sounds as though you might have it too high as suggested.

If the cheek pieces are bulging you may not have them sitting correctly (have to go from the outside) - I have seen that a couple of times.
