Does anyone use an app to track their hacks?

I use Endomondo Pro. Really rate it - use it for running as well as riding. Works out your average mile per hour, calories burned etc too. You can also link it to social media and people can actively track you - I find that helpful from a safety POV!
Unsure if Android friendly or not though.

I don't have a smart phone (it doesn't even have a camera :( ) But I would love to know how many miles we go for!!

I use View Ranger as it has an option to be able to plot a route and it acts like a satnav (essential for me as I have no sense of direction!). It also lets you download maps onto your phone so you don't need wifi or a signal to use it (you pay for the maps but they're pretty cheap).

I find some work better with different phones so you may have to try a few of the free ones. I am currently having good results with Runtastic on a Windows OS and likes Sportypal on a different phone. Mapmyrun kept losing connection and Endomondo had my Hertfordshire hack go via Eastern Europe which made for an interesting average speed.

I use endomondo too. My husband uses it for his cycling. He can actually see where I am in real time. So if I stop moving he knows where to send the ambulance too! :-)

I am like you but when home you can use mapometer.com to trace your steps and work out miles, altitude and calories burned it is great fun.

This is probably a very stupid question but I'm not sure how these type of things work! If I wanted to be tracked and someone to track me (novice horse hacking on our own at present, so would be good for a safety POV), would both my phone and the phone of the person tracking need to be connected to the internet?

another vote for endomondo! I used to use it when I was training for the London to brighton bike ride, you can create routes and try to beat your previous time too! I pooped myself the first time it talked to me in my pocket, it tells you how many miles its taken for each mile! or if you're faster than your last time :)

In order to actually track where you go, you need to enable your GPS, so I would imagine you could be tracked, yes. I've never had anyone watch while I'm hacking, but it seems it works for Bluesmum.
I always use Endomondo pro, but I have recently downloaded Viewranger. Not used that one yet though. :)

I use Stable Mate - it tracks my rides but also keeps track of stuff like farrier, dentist, vaccines, worming etc, really like it and very easy to use
