Does anyone use day kennels??

I am a groom and we have kennels on site, they are used by the public as well as staff dogs.

Using the kennels would cost very very little (about £1 oer day I think as I am staff;)) but I am unsure about using them.

I would need to go and find out what routine / level of interaction the dogs recieve when they are in there before I made any decision obviously but I do know that they recieve at least one on lead walk (walked by students in one huge group with supervision).

My reservations are mainly down to the fact that Betsy is still a baby, do you think it would upset her as she has just settled into one routine (she would only use kennels when both of us are at work - the alternative is to get a dog walker) It would never be 5 days a week every week.

I also hear the kenelled dogs bark ALL DAY when I am working, I dont want to put her into a stressful environment like that... but I could just be being soft.

Another member of staff uses the kennels and other than her dog being a silly baby she seems to quite enjoy her days there.

Basically I cannot make a decision and I have mothered the puppy far too much and have become a clingy irrational mother :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Does anyone else use a similar set up? Would she need any extra jobs / flea / worming other than her normal routine ones?

Or should I just fork out for a dog walker?.......Or leave work and be a lady of leisure??;):p
 
I work in Boarding Kennels and my dog comes with me when my housemate is at work.
We walk 20 minutes to work, have a 30 minute romp at lunchtime and walk 20 minutes home after work, so he gets lots more running about than the other dogs in the kennels. He is a pretty stressy dog and I thought he would whine and pace around, but he sits quietly and takes everything in. He drags me up the driveway, so he must enjoy it :D and after a day at work he is exhausted! The dogs do bark ALL DAY :rolleyes: but it doesn't seem to bother the other quieter dogs - we do have a block that is further away from the rest and kept for nervous and older dogs - but my dog has never been bothered, today he was opposite the most annoying creature ever and he certainly didn't seem to care. I find that the noise doesn't affect me at all anymore, I barely notice it, so maybe the dogs block it out too!
We advise people to bring younger dogs in for day boarding to get them used to the environment if they plan to leave their dogs with us when they go away. The younger dogs always get a lot more fuss and attention than the older dogs :rolleyes: and they adapt far quicker to a new routine. If you could leave her for a half day first to get her used to it gradually.

You'd have to check with the kennels, but we only ask that the dogs are vaccinated and boosters are kept up to date. Some people prefer to have the kennel cough vaccine, but we find those dogs still tend to pick it up anyway and be aware that kennels won't accept dogs that have been vaccinated for KC until at least 10 days after the jab. Flea and worming, just makes sure she is kept up to date.

I think the barking just irritated me because I have to get stressy horses past it and shout at students over it! haha.

I think I will pop down when I finish work tomorrow and ask afew questions. Half a day should be quite easy to arrange if they will take her.

The dogs are walked in a huge group... which I have no problem with but princess B is resisting all form of training when there is another dog in sight. So that could be an interesting walk...
 
Alfie comes to work at the vet school sometimes as he is used in student practicals and has to obviously go into their kennels.
I'm a first time fussy owner, so I took him in for a few hours before there were other dogs, then half days when it was all barky and noisy.
He is a spoilt mummys boy who hates shouty dogs but he drags me there every time with a waggy tail, so I feel for now its good for him!
