Was wondering the best option to feed the boys in the winter so their hay doesn't get blown all over the place and trampled in the mud. We wasted so much last year and want to avoid the same problems this year.

Does anyone know the best place to buy them ?

I've considered it, as mine are out 24/7, with haylage being the bulk of their diet. However, I am concerned that my cribber couldn't be trusted with one, without doing herself an injury. I am debating buying a hay hutch, or perhaps doing as others have suggested, and feeding from inside a tractor tyre.

Yes, we do for a herd of 20+ live out geldings.

We have 8 racks that are on hard standing in a horse shoe shape and far enough apart that there are no kicking matches.

I think the last few came from CWG (or somewhere similar) and were £200 -£300 ish.

Never had a problem with cribbing and they are very sturdy so never knocked over!

A friend used to use one, for many years. Last year, one of her horses knocked it over, got a leg stuck and suffered horrific injuries. Luckily it survived but is very scarred.
If you were going to use one I would suggest finding one that is very stable and has no holes or angles that a horse could get trapped in.

I use a round sheep feeder. I had four horses around it last year with no issues. It's a bit smaller than the cattle ones and so much easier to move about and also much cheaper.

We made our own feeders out of two old tractor tyres...they still waste a lot though!
