Does anyone use screw carabiners to attach a curb chain to a Pelham as I've heard them mentioned but can't find any.

If not I'm really struggling to attach the hooks to the bit, they came totally separate and I can't find any pliers to attach them to the bit as they just slip and near chop my fingers off.

Please help me.

I'd be tempted to have a chat with the farrier and ask if it would work to heat the hooks in the furnace and attach using some of his more industrial tools :)

My main issue with them are that it would be more difficult to remove the chain in a hurry if anything were to go wrong - though this is probably about even with the risks of hooks in general.

They can swivel or get the chain caught on the wider part which can make the chain tighter than intended but this is not a deal breaker

My main issue with them (and this does come from a showing point of view, it wouldn't bother me for XC etc) is that they look awful!

I use standard hooks in the show ring, these are purely 'fun time' ones for me ;)

I've never had one slip- and I have a welshie who can do all sorts and everything with his gob :)

I've had standard ones get caught up and slip into the lip- no chance of that with these, and my Welsh has a really soft mouth- he used to get sores from standard ones if used daily, these and the springer ones (coated with rubber, like on the Metalab bits) don't rub him at all for some reason.
