Basically i have 2 horses and 2 children and i work! So not much time on my hands as you could imagine! Next year i want to start doing pleasure rides to move up to endurance with one of my mares. So most of my time is going to be tied up with her. I could never sell my other mare i have had her for 12 years. So i was wondering if people look for a horse just to hack?

I would basically want someone to ride 2-6 times a week. For her to stay where she is. Help with poo picking couple of times a week. She is 16hh 16yo grey ID.

If people do look for this sort of thing do you charge for it? How much? I dont pay for my livery. I keep my horses at a friends.

Thanks for any advice. I have only just started thinking about this. I have never loaned or shared so i dont really know too much about it!

I think that that would go down pretty well particularly in this area (I'm in Aberdeenshire too). When I was looking for a loan there were shares going for £20 - £30 for 2 or 3 days a week, so you could maybe base how much you charge on that which seems like the going rate! And although this is coming from the dizzying heights of 20, you'd probably have more success, not on the interest side, but on how well it works, by putting something like no under 16s/under 18s on your ad. A few of the people I spoke to during my loan horse hunt were pretty tired with the 14 or 15 year olds they had where the novelty wore off after a few weeks. I think you could end up making a slightly quieter, older woman (by this I mean like 30s!) very happy if she maybe doesn't have the time for her own horse. Good luck!!

Where abouts are you? I payed £130 a month for my old pony witch was expensive in my books not sure on happy hacks but I rekon the loaner should pay for the shoes and trimming as they are the one who is wearing them down. Hope it helps

Ok thanks for that. I just realised after i read back over what i had put i am not advertising this was all a thought i had in bed last night! I really doubt i would look for anyone until the start of spring next year.

That is a good idea littlemac about the age thing. She is a very sweet mare has never put a foot wrong. She is a good confidence giver. She would suit a older person as she just likes to go for a easy time doesnt like bombing about although would if you asked her too! Where are you in Aberdeenshire? I am near Huntly.

Inverurie, so if you still don't have anyone by May, I'll do it cos by then I'll be horse-less ;) Spring is even better, I can imagine some people reading an ad now and then thinking 'Hmm, what about when the snow/rain/less than pleasant weather comes?!' Also any time you were doing much shorter rides, like fun rides type things, maybe the sharer could come along if you were going anyway? Something to work towards for them if they fancied... Scot-ads and equineadverts.co.uk are probably good bets!
ETA she sounds lovely :) definitely what the type of person you'd be aiming for would be looking for :)

Anymore suggestions on cost? Would the £20 - £30 be a month or a week? - wouldn't mind someone taking her along to pleasure rides but she needs work on her loading she just needs to. Go in a couple of times a week to keep her used to it and she is fine. May see you in may then littlemac!!

Theres a few happy hackers on loan round about here. Usually its about £25 per week and half shoes. If its a full loan then they pay for all the horses needs.

Ok thanks for that. I just dont want her leaving where i have them currently and would still like a say in feeding etc as she can get fat quite quickly. At the moment she is barefoot however if whoever was using her felt she needed shoes back on then it would be possible.

I hack three ponies out for people who just want their horses exercised and are grateful for any time spent with them. I don't pay for the rides so finding someone to exercise your horse for you can be from free to whatever they are prepared to pay. If you expect poo picking as well I'd keep the charges to a minimum though.

I have a happy hacker that is on part loan, she stays at the same yard as my other horse, she is to be hacked only with the odd bit in the school if the ground is frozen etc and they pay £25.00 for 3 days.

I have lots and lots of calls from older riders who just want to enjoy a horse and i always have the pick of people.

Oh, and they do all jobs on there days.
