Ive recently stsrted giving my 29yr old mare 1 danilon 1hr before riding but i sometimes find she is quite strong and it has been suggested that it can numb the mouth. Any idea if this is true

I always thought it a myth but it did used to be considered by some people to do so, with your older mare if she needs it to keep her sound to ride I think I would want her on a maintenance dose daily for her to really benefit, or possibly look at giving her some other help as well, it could simply be she feels better for having it so is more enthusiastic about being ridden so could be a positive sign as long as you are safe, as you are giving her a prescribed drug I would keep monitoring her and ask your vet what they think if she gets worse.

I doubt it.
I’d imagine it’s more likely that the horse is stiff/creaky/lame and that often can feel dead in the mouth
