Im sure many of us have said or heard the saying ' I wouldnt sell my horse for ANY amount of money'. but does every horse have a price?

Does it depend on the horse, or would you sell any horse for the right price?

i was offered £2000 for my Sec A on saturday but he's worth his weight in gold to me!!! and the same goes for bear. would you sell for the right price?!! xx

Yes! Every single one of mine has a price ....... however it may not necessarily be financial.

I think that anyone who says they would never sell their horse under ANY circumstances is either deluding themselves, a child or they have no grasp on reality.

Yes, if someone offered me good money for Axey I'd sell him

Yes I would sell if I couldnt give them the life they deserved, if it came to them not getting what they needed, yes I would let them go.

I have been offered some silly money but wasnt tempted because in my eyes I couldnt replace what I have, not easily anyway.

They are part of my family, just like my dogs. I know that sounds soppy and sentimental but its true.

Tia why do feel that you are always pointing at me? just because i have different views and interests to you doesn't mean that you always have to bitch!!! i notice that in nearly every post you bitch at someone or something!! have something nice to say to some people!!!

and im not ''deluded'' ''a child'' or have no grasp on reality just because i wouldn't sell my horses!!! i love them their part of the family!!!

I think you are being a bit harsh there. I have an old boy, had him for 16 years, he was my first horse and I could no more sell him than I could a child. He owes me nothing and I owe him everything so as far as I am concerned you could offer me millions and I would not sell.

I only have one horse, he's not part of a business or one of many. So No, I don't forsee I would ever sell him. I s'pose if you're talking ridiculous figures like over 100K then I might have to consider (not saying I'd do it)......but that's not gonna happen anyway!!!!

luckily my two are 10 yrs and 4 yrs so hopefully have another 20 years atleast out of them both!!!! horses are alot less hassle then children!!!

How old are you? Can you tell the time? You will see that your post was made at 18.21 and my post was made at 18.21 so how in the heck could I be pointing at you.

If you are an adult then go have an inferiority complex somewhere else; if you are a child then growing up might be a start.

I wont say I would never sell ben as I dont know what the future is going to be like anything could change, I hope to keep him forever but if the time comes and he has to go then I guess he will. Saying that though I hope he wont be going anywhere though I would do all I could to keep him.

I am deluded

Cairo would never be for sale no matter how much - even a millon would not tempt my OH. For us, money isn't everything. If we could not afford to keep him, I would find him a new permanent loan home. He is more than just a horse to us - he is a family member - we don't have kids, hence we are daft about our pets.

Chancer - if I was in severe financial trouble, I would consider it but it would have to be a fantastic home, preferably with someone I personally knew he would not be sold on from.

I do however so wish that I had not turned down 7k for Fleur

bracken will never be sold not for any amount offered as i got her to stop her going to a meatman as her previous owner decided she had had enough because she wasnt in foal! as it was she had the foal! (in my sig). i have got a back up in place as my auntie is involved with redwings and has assured me she would go there however as she has money and land that is only plan B as plan A is bracken goes to my auntie!!

I don't believe you are deluded actually judging by your response. The question was "does every horse have a price?", reading your reply the answer is clearly "yes" as you said you would give him away.

You will all note I did say that the price is not necessarily financial.

So maybe I will put a codicil onto my earlier post - some people may also be cruel then. If you had an accident and became quadriplegic, were also made bankrupt and lost your home.....then that would be cruelty in my mind to keep a horse on no funds.

Yes!!

Although i wouldnt sell my mare, even if someone offered me what i had paid for her or more, if someone offered me *alot* of money, sure i think i would.

Its not that i dont love her, but i have never seen my horses as a pet or part of the family as such. They are there to do a job!! Plus if it was enough to pay my debts....well, it kind of answers itself that one!!

Tia, do you ever read back your posts or dont you care? As said above by another reader you really do come across as a right bitch and there is really no need for your sarcastic comments surely ??

That would be some damn bad luck!!

But seriously, i think thats a different thing altogether.

Oh I always, always read my posts before sending them.

They are always clear and to the point and if you don't like reading them or have trouble understanding them, then don't read them. Quite simple.

I don't think so. How can anyone know what the future holds for us? Therefore how in the heck can anyone say they would never ever do anything?

That is a totally different scenario - yes they would have to go, it would break my heart - but they have to come first, I would rather give to a friend, a charity etc than sell.

I have only ever sold one horse - Fleur and that was for a token amount and the right thing to do - she is very happy being a broodmare. I still get to visit and have first offer back on her.

I have no problem with people selling horses and I have been so very lucky to date in finding horses that stay for life.

Tia - Of course, if i were in a situation as bad as this, i would have to say i wouldnt have horses. And of course, no one knows what the futre holds....

But what i meant was, to me...this is an entirely different question to the one posted in the original thread. Thats simply my opinion.

Been offered a lot of money for mine in the past.... we were offered a considerable more than his purchase price after having him a couple of months but no, hes not for sale.. at all.

I consider my boy to be 100% unique and he'll be with me for the rest of his life

Sold horses before... kept a few til the end of their days... Not everything has a price because you cant replace everything with money

My first reaction would be that I would never sell my lot as they are members of the family. However, having helped at a big endurance ride at the weekend where money is no object to some of those taking part and indeed they were walking round looking at the various horses there and probably buying some of them, I think it is naive to say that if someone offered you a life changing amount of money for your horse, that you would not consider it. You might not accept it, but it would be stupid not to think about it. None of us know what the future has in store for us - as Tia says, so my reply would be that at the moment, I would not consider selling any of them, while my health and circumstances are such that I can look after them.

I was going to reply about my own horse to this thread, but after reading Tia's responses, I don't think I'll bother.

It was obviously asking if someone offered 'the right money' would you sell your horse, but with Tia splitting hairs, making it into something much more complex and patronising others, that really has got lost hasn't it?
crazy.gif

Oh I completely understand not wanting to sell them - I would not want to sell my special horses either, however there is no way I could categorically say I would NEVER sell my horses as I have no way of knowing what the future holds.

I have no intention of selling some of them though, but intentions and what might actually happen are two different things though in my book.
smile.gif

I would only ever sell him if I couldn't afford to keep him, or if something awful happened to me or OH that made it impossible to keep him. Other than that you could offer me huge sums of money and in my current situation I wouldn't take it (i'm not rich by the way!!)

I'd like to say I would'nt but in reality I probably would sell my horse if someone offered me a really large sum of money for him, I'd feel guilty for doing so though so it would have to be a lot. I love him to peices and certainly don't plan to offer him for sale unless my situation changes dramatically.

Absolutely, my mum has just been diagnosed with a brain tumour and if the worst happens my brother will be coming to live with us, as much as I love the horses my family will always come first.

Ahh sounds like I am not wanted on this forum - perhaps it is time to take my leave. After all no-one has ever gained any useful knowledge from me and I never give any help or advice and I am nothing but a bitch, so you won't miss me.
