The boaster! What is with those people that feel the need to go on and on about how great their horse is and what a great rider they are?

There is a girl on my yard that has only been with us a couple of months and her story changes from week to week - when she first arrived she apparently told someone she'd competed in a CIC***?? That quicky changed though. But one day she says her horse NEVER refuses - the next he is in the school refusing to jump a cross pole - there are many mroe examples.

Is she just insecure? Maybe she is just trying to impress - but personally I'd rather say I was crap and then do well!

We had one girl that came along told us she had eventes etc, bought herself a grade B showjumper and let me tell you what a waste of a horse, she won't even jump over 2' - funny to watch though.

There is another that makes out she is the dogs b******* and can't even canter her horse without screaming her head off. These people provide me with much amusement I love it

Yes know and hear what you say.....at the mo no we do not....but, have been on yards where their is one....all that they do is bigger and better then every one else....they always like their horsey tack, clothes and items to be more expensive and better than any body else's,and they have no interest in any body else either, be them or their horse....tend to like being the centre of attention...I think you find she just wants to be noticed maybe.....with these sort of people I tend to not listen only show interest when they talk with logic!

Yes that is so true - if you get a word in and dare to mention something about your own horse, then theirs has always done it bigger or better!

I do find it funy and certainly doesn't annoy me - but I am interested in the psychology of it!

My first instinct was to say a big fat YES, but on reflection, no there isn't one at my yard at the moment.... there are a few who compete reguarly and do well, but they never boast. In fact, one girl events Pre-Novice and Novice. She did quite well last year, winning 3 i think and a fair few dressage points, but you have to prise the info out of her as she's very modest!

I beleive they are as common as the yard know-it-all - the person who likes to dish out advice whether you like it or not, but never seem to do anything themselves. Do you think H&H should start putting caricatures of these stereotypes in the letters page of the mag (as they've done with others)...

Have known several like that! What really makes me laugh is when they make out they are doing really well at affiliated level - but it is so easy to check out the results and see that they are not!

I think that is really lovely. I think all of my horses are pretty damn fantastic too......and I don't care who knows it.

We did have one at our yard, and although she got on everyones nerves with her little pearls of wisdom, everyone really missed her when she left - they didn't have anyone to moan about any more.

Here are a few of her classics:

Oh, yeah - I've done the derby bank at Hickstead!!! Mostly hilarious as she is less than a happy hacker

You only create banks in your bed to stop the draft (sp)!

Oh there were loads, but I can't remember them all now. Damn.

Well we all think our horses are wonderful - naturally. But I think most of us don't feel the need to try and make out that our horses and our riding are better than everyone elses.

I just think it's very transparent and a little sad...

I'm not on a yard coz i keep my horses on my farm, but my friends mum is terrible! I really like her, shes a good friend and shes helped me a lot over the years, but OMG can she boast about her horses!

She goes on about how amazingly stunning they are. She breeds most of them from her (crapy) palomino arab stallion, honestly hes got the worst movement. The worst thing is she put her mare who is by Dutch Gold out of a well bred mare to the flipping arab! Why oh why!

AND she wastes her horses...shes got the most gorgeous PBW stallion whos now 10 and hes covered about 2 mares in his life.....he is soooooo talented, hes got the biggest jump i've seen on a pony and loves he it, he'll jump jumps on his own! She wanted me to break him into harness this summer and then changed her mind.

I think she has 15 horses at the mo and none of them are ridden (except for 2 about once a month) its such a shame. But there you go each to their own.

though i think because mine is actually branded as 'donkey' you will have a challenge on your hands! add in the big ears, the dorsal stripe and brey like whinny as well LOL

Please note normally he refuses to socialise with his brothers/sisters! 4 of them live up the road from him and on seeing them he has to start passaging (badly!) in his attempt to try and fool them into thinking he is actually a horse!!!

I have only ever been on one yard that had one of those people.
I find the most common one is the person who delights in offering their advice at every opportunity...and it's usually wrong.
Also the one who phones you at stupid hours to tell you the horse looks cold....

Some yards do...but what some people forget is that if they have compete affiliated you can access their results within seconds to see how they've done!!! Well, with BE and BD you can anyways!

Its one thing to be proud of your horse and your achievements but people really don't need to hear it 24/7. At the end of the day no person and no horse is perfect and much as I love my sweet TB mare she is by no means without her faults and neither am I!!!
