Does everyone have a 4x4? How are you getting to the yard?

I have a Ford Focus which saw me through the snow at the beginning of the year and isnt doing too badly at the moment. Although the worst it got was 3 inches!

However, Ex policeman off duty in his Nissan X Trail this morning, skidded on the ice and hit my car causing damage to both! Going by that, I probably wouldnt recommend an X Trail....or possibly getting in a police car at high speed with him driving it seeing as we have barely an inch of snow at the moment! :D

Ive been getting to work in my battered old clio, it sounds noisy but it keeps going. But Im not going to the yard (not yet as currently dont have a horse) but last winter it did quite well. But I know one of these years hopefully next year I will get a newer car.

My little corsa has yet to let me down in the snow. She plowed on through last year, but this year just to be sure, I have a set of snow chains, in case the lane gets really bad.

My plug-ugly 10 year old Astra estate has been worth her considerable weight in gold this week. Started every day without even a cough or splutter and although twitchy without a bag of feed to weigh the back down she has otherwise gone wherever I have asked her. I will never be rude about her again!

I have an 09 Corsa which is not great especially on hills. My old x reg corsa was much better - I could make it up the farm road in the old one - currently I'm leaving the car at the bottom and walking up the hill every morning. I am seriously thinking of winter tyres - do they help in icy conditions or just snow?

i have a clio and it is rotten in the snow however with some very skillful driving skills lol hahaha i am managing to drive the 19miles to the yard, with the hardest bits being getting out of our street (stay a bottom of a hil in a cul-de-sac need to go up hil to get out) and the road from our house to main road. Our YO's OH has a snow plough and has cleared the access road so its actually better than our street!

I have a vauxhall frontera for towing trailer which is great in the snow but my OH has pinched it this week as he starts at 5am so needs to drive on untreated roads so he gets the good car

I have a clio and it is amazing in the snow, no problems this year or last. It just keeps going, and I have some pretty steep hills to get up.

I've got a Suzuki Vitara (56) and it's been fab, got me to the horses down a single track hilly lane and back up no problem, last year I had old Vitara (had to select 4wd) with great fat tyres on it and it still got me around, so thumbs up for the Vitara, OH has a Nissan Terrano (SWB) and that is mega. Even my mum's little Clio has got her around, think alot of it is how you drive and the other drivers....

i have a toyota hilux and its been fab. We have been the only ones able to get out where we live (north east scotland) apart from other neighbours who also have a hilux truck. Ive been out every day and it has just ploughed straight on through. Got stuck in h4 coming off the main road where they ploughed all the snow into the junction:mad: but got out fine using L4 and someone in an Audi Quattro got totally stuck there and had to get pushed out. When we got it last year a couple of folk warned us it might be light in the back end due to being a pickup, we have a canopy on the back but no weight in it and we havent needed any, its been great!

Last year hubby had an Avensis and it was awful - slipped all over the place. My Audi TT was much much better but being low slung it did get stuck a few times.
This year we have a Hilux and thank god! The roads round here have been awful and unless you have a 4x4 you can't make it to our yard.
We have pulled out 3 cars in the last 2 days out of snow drifts, icy patches etc.
I take the pee out of my hubby being so prepared (he carries the kitchen sink in his truck!) but we've been the only 4x4 with tow ropes etc to be able to help when people have got stuck.

I have an elderly 206, we haven't much snow, it's mainly ice round here the last week so car is okay if driven very slowly using engine braking, have caused a few traffic jams, tough it's only two miles (from the main road) so they'll have to lump it!

I do have snow snow chains in case of emergencies!

Not sure what I'd do if we had deep snow for several days, would have to get someone to look after him for me... would drive me nuts I think!

Currently saving for a 4x4 though...

Used my daughters citroen xsara in jan most of time, also my land cruiser this year i have a nissan navara just turn the button into 4wd off you go , but to be honest its all about driving slowly and being patient, obviously if you have very deep snow the big 4wd are fantastic, fuel is heavy tho rest of year when no snow around .
