does giving your horse polo mints undermine the idea of unmolassed feeds?

If you feed your horse only unmolassed feeds, then feed it a few polos, are you undermining the benefits of the feeding schedule?

I have even heard it suggested that feeding carrots/apples may cause the diet to be too high in sugars. What do you reckon? cheers...

I don't think anyone will give a horse a bucket of Polo's a couple of polo's would be insignificant I would have thought.

I only give sugar free polos. I also feed high fibre pony cubes as treats instead of those horrible molassed treats you can buy. My mare is prone to laminitis and had a bout this summer despite being skinny. She gets the odd apple or carrot as they are mostly made up of water but never artificial sugary treats and certainly no likits!

I do this, I've gone onto using Dengie Alfalfa Pellets as treats as he needs them for his iron anyway. It makes me laugh when people wonder why they are having problems with their horses behaviour, I've banned my friend from buying those likit things for her horse as she's had problems with him and it seems to have worked along with other measures

Carrots have an awful lot of sugar in them. They send my placid horse wild, he doesn't get them anymore.
