Coming into winter, I decided to try Ruby on haylege. My reason being, was that it was cheaper to buy then hay and the whole yard was on it, so easier too. It turned her into a spooky Horse who had a meltdown and the smallest of things (usually such a laid back girl) I completly understood, she wasn't in much work (small hacks at the weekend) and turnout was limited. I switched back over to hay and she was as calm as anything again.

Anyways, for the last 3 weeks she has been living out, even though the spring grass is coming through, she has been as calm as anything. She is also now ridden 5-6 times a week. We have still been putting out hay overnight, as although there is grass, there isn't too much. YO has one bale left of haylege so started putting that out in the field to use it up (for the last 2 nights). YO'S Horses turned there noses up at it (perhaps its on the turn) so eating the hay I put out instead. Which leaves Ruby the haylege, I rode her on Sat, hacked out pretty much on the buckle and she was lovely. Gave her Sunday off, rode yesterday. And what a nightmare! she was spooky and silly. Spooking at anything and everything, including cars and people  I'm pretty sure its the haylege. I spoke to YO and she has stopped putting it out and using her hay instead. So hopefully I will get my nice calm Horse back in a couple of days!!

Can anyone elses Horses not torlerate Haylege?

Not so much just hayledge but mine needs very little energy wise. Half a stubbs scoop of pony nuts, let alone a mix, a day is enough to send mine silly if she's not doing the required work. Haylage has the same effect too.

Glad its not just mine then! All of the other Horses at the yard are fine on haylege.

I even had to get off to lead past a car! when on Sat I had 2 vans and a motorbike speed past us one after the other and she didn't blink an eye! Silly Horse!
