I used the weight tape on Beau last night and it came in at 577kg. Hes 15.3 and shire x. I can *just* feel his ribs, he gets worked every day for up to 60/80 mins including around 20-25 mins canter work and a lot of trot. We do jumping now and again, and he isn't sluggish over them!
He gets fed 1 mug Baileys lo-cal balancer, and a handful of chaff just to hold the Superflex and Multivit he gets (it literally all fits into a SMALL measuring jug) and he is out 24/7 and very rarely gets hay when he comes in cos its far to dusty for my liking and he hates it wet. I've asked about restricted grazing, but its all with ponies so cos of his size I've been told he cant go in.

So how does he look? This pic is only about 2 weeks old and he is a lot less fluffy coated. And the girl riding is only like 8 stone and a twig!

keep him in the current condition in the photograph, he looks fantastic, remember if he is a shire X he is going to have a serious amount of bone so he is going to look chunkier, but then remember a lot of is is bone not muscle and fat. Keep up the good work, he really does you credit

He looks fab. We have a shire X, looks very much like yours actually. He weighs almost 800KG, but he is not fat, as confirmed by our vet who hates overweight equines!!
This is ours, he is 15.1hh and his mum was a Dartmoor pony. Do you know what yours is crossed with?

Not really. It's down as Irish cob on a very old vetting cert (back when he was still called Popeye!), But he doesn't have a whole lot of feather, never near as much as your boy in the pic DOnkeygal. So it has been suggested that maybe Irish Draught as he looks a lot better slim, and he was around 520lg at one point and he looked a lot finer, and clipped off most people would never say he was shire x.

As long as he is fit I'm happy. Just do kinda worry cos of all the fitter horses on the yard (God, sounds like my fatness insecurities are moving ot my horses -eek!)

I think he's spot on and dont like to see horses too fat. Just measure him once a week with the tape and if it starts to creep up use a grazing muzzzle
