Does height make a difference?

In the selling price of a horse? I'm not selling just asking.

Say a cobby type lightweight enough to be quick on its feet but also meaty enough to carry some weight. Bombproof but forward going. Easy doer of course. Hunter. Jumper even capable of some decent dressage. A proper all rounder. Not coloured. Say a gelding not a mare, bay or black rather than grey.

What would he price difference be if the above horse was 15hh vs the same at 16hh??

It seems to be the case, a 16hh suits almost everyone rather than a 15hh who suits less. However that said maybe he'd be mothers-gold for a teen in which case that'd increase his worth.
In short I don't know! :D :D

I think it does, definitely, but not so much in that scenario as say a competitive horse for show jumping (or even dressage).
But yes, we always say that a 15.1hh-ish horse is a difficult height to sell. 16 hands suits many more people. The type of horse described though, IMO, would be less affected by the height than a specialised competition horse for an ambitious rider.

See I prefer a smaller horse. My youngster is ending up as way too big but I will keep him anyway. I'm not a pea on a drum kinda gal I like em between 15 and 15'2. But that's just me. I know most people prefer them bigger than 16hh so I have seen smaller horses especially 15hh for less than the same horse would be if it were taller.

I have never thought about that height, it does from 16hh to 17hh, you lose about a grand when over 17hh (which is great for me as I love my biggies :) )

I guess maybe you lose a grand either way then? For the 15hh and the 17hh.

Which is what my youngster has ended up making! Ouch! :)
