Does it annoy you when other people feed your horse?

It would, but fortunately I have been on yards where we have all had a complete understanding of each other's regimes, and it hasn't happened except by arrangement.

I would put a sign on the stable door.

I presume you are quite young and your parents pay the livery bill, so I suggest you ask them to have a word with the YO about this situation as they are likely to be taken more seriously.

How long is your pony in the stable for? Although he is obviously getting enough feed to maintain his condition well, does he finish his hay quickly and is then standing for a long time without any, which is why people keep putting hay in? If so, perhaps you could prepare two smaller soaked nets - one of which can be put in when he first comes in, and then the other one can go in later on, so he is not spending too long without hay.

As a y/o where people constantly dont give there horses hay, I chuck hay over to most of my liveries.
For instance, Sunday morning, people left feed out, but no hay and water. I arrive at 7.30, feed yard, muck out my horses, by the time I have finished and turned mine out all other horses have finished breakfast.....
No sign of liveries, horses kicking door, neighbours getting woken up and horses have no water - liveries arrive somewhere between 9 and 10, faf around and turn out by 11 ish, or lunchtime if riding.
So hay and waters whole yard (and its a DIY yard)

Also in evenings, horses kicking as have finished hay, so each get hay overnight etc

IMHO a horse grazes 8 hours a day in the field, I have constant issues with my liveries who fail to realise that bringing them in and giving them a shavings bed and section of hay is not sufficient nor good for them.

This said, my liveries are happy with me doing this. If one of my liveries started feeding others extra hard feed etc I would put a stop to it right away, as this level of interfearance is out of order and dangerous.

Thankfully none of my livery horses are laminitic etc.

I would be more than furious!! He looks in great condition gosh do people not understand the importance of managing weight and native ponies?!

I have a couple of people at my yard who liked to give my 2 year old NF treats when out in the field - not only was the sugar giving him even more energy but it was also teaching him bad manners as I never feed him from my hand! Needless to say I was fuming and I totally lost my temper with them - we don't speak anymore but they leave my pony well alone now.

I would put signs up although I just can't believe people would have the ordasity to do such a thing as feed your pony!!

I think it's very decent of you to hay and breakfast the whole yard. I think it's much better for the horses to all eat together.

I think the OP problem is that the horse is getting random rations from anyone who feels like it. Irrespective of her wishes.

ETS Totally agree about hay hungry horses. I believe there was another post from OP where this was discussed.

For my mare the ideal situation is that there is hay left when I get there, AM or PM as I want her eating all the time. For her it's the best thing, but of course laminitics/fatties do pose a problem.

I run a small yard 12 horses and they all have different reasons to be on the feed and hay they are on. Nobody is allowed to feed or give hay to any one else’s horse unless asked to do so. We have one horse that has had colic surgery and we have a fat little pony that is on soaked hay double netted and limited turnout for its own good.

A couple of girls would allow the horse on the end of the block to have a mouthful of there feed as they walked past, the owner asked them not to then i caught them doing it i went nuts telling them that they didn’t know what allergies that horse had and there actions could seriously affect the horses health not to mention that he will start nipping when they don’t have a feed for him.

Needless to say she they have never done it since.

It is completely out of order and shouldn’t be done.

No, im 17 and pay for EVERYTHING myself. My parents are nothing to do with it and it is all my responsibility. The max he is standing around without hay during the day is two hours, usually a lot less. He goes out in he morning, comes in in the afternoon as a small amount of hay, I come up ride and give him his big net for the night
