This isn't really horse related, but it is bacause a horse did it to me...

A horse stood on my ankle when it was next to the tack room door, and this is a 14.3 Cob bargy mare... And I preceded to hop after it and when I got hold of it, the beast dragged me along the floor

Luckily, only grass, so am only muddy. Horse is now in bad books.

But my real Q is, is my ankle fractured/broken?

I can walk on it as long as it don't move it (still hurts just hardly as much)... i.e. keep it flat... Which is impossible LOL! I can't put my wellies on without crying cos i have to point my toes... There is nothing you can see, no bruising or swelling, just more veins have come up on my feet? And ankle hurts when you touch it.. small bumpy bit...

But I have had it up in on a box with a bag of frozen peas since 10 now...

Can move it and everything... Just when i put weight on it is really hurts, especially when i have my foot bent up or pointing down...

Would go get it x-rayed but stuck at home with my mum who lost her driving liscence the other day, due to her being diagnosed with diabetes

What do you guys think?

Since when did diabetes stop you from driving????

Agree to go to hospital and you can lose your licence through diabetes, some types can have hypo glycemia (sp) black out type things when the blood/sugar levels go tits up. Almost like being very very drunk.

Just going to say... You should REALLY get it checked out.

I fractured mine when I was in my teens - my horse stood on the side of my foot... kinda scraped down the ankle bone on the outside and in an effort to move, I went over sideways on mine.

It was very swollen and very painful but i COULD hobble about on it. Next day it went completly black and it tooks ages to be right.. but the wimp I am meant I never had it seen to and my mum just left me to it.

Anyway, several years on, I still have a lot of problems with said ankle. It seizes up something chronic and particularly in winter, it aches like hell

Seriously, get it seen, it might save you problems in the future!

You def. have to go to hospital! Could just be badly sprained/strained and they'll just strap it up. You find nowadays unless it is broken you won't even get crutches.

Sorry to hear about your mum. My OH has had diabetes since a baby but thankfully his are under control (injections) and he can drive.

I broke my ankle last Feb, could still walk on it - but like u said not moving it - did that for 3 days thinking it was a sprain, but then it went purple!! Turns out I had broken the bottom off that knobly bit on the outside and it was quite bad as had mved 3mm (thats a lot in bone terms)

It wasn't that sore, so judging by the amount of pain u sound in I would say it prob is!!
I had trouble with balance for ages after wards - and I ride kinda funny now.

SO GET IT CHECKED PRONTO

I would say get it checked out too.

My horse trampled on me in March this year......lept sideways knocking me over in the process and stood on my lower leg! Could walk so didnt do anything about it but after 6 weeks the bruising had gone but the swelling still hadn't gone down so they sent me for an xray just in case. Small chip in bone but mainly tissue and nerve damage. Seven months later I still have a lump on the side of my leg and it is still numb! The doctor did say though that the damage may be permanent.

Ankles and feet however are much more intricate with lots of little bones and ligaments so I would imagine a lot easier to damage.......definately go for an xray!

And let us know how you get on!

My mother is being awkward (sp?) and keeps telling me she can't do anything about it. No taxi wants to come out here, so am going to have to wait untill my step-dad gets home.

It is especially painfull after being on the ice, so have taken it off
smile.gif
What's the point, eh?

Still, even if it is broken they won't be able to stop me from riding!

Hun, I'm sorry but, being awkward? I would never let my daughter sit in agony and not move heaven and earth to get her to A&E, I would be knocking on peoples doors to get her there. Are you not able to ask anyone?? Why not get a taxi? Do you live that far out in the sticks??

Up to you, if you want to spend the rest of your life limping, or unable to get your heel down, then ignore medical advice..in fact don't bother getting any

the NHS is busy enough without treating people who aren't going to look after themselves

Look, me and my mother don't have the best relationship in the world. What's normal to me, may not be what any other girl finds normal. My mum generally doesn't care. She tells me that as I am

"younger, a child, not an adult, and the daughter, not the mother, I am just being dramatic and there is nothing wrong with me."

This happens all the time, and happened last time my foot got stood on. A friend who is also a doctor tells me now, that two years later, you can see that it was broken.

My mum is really stubborn, and tells me there's nothing to see so i must be faking it. Full stop.

She is now telling me that she is ill so i have to go and get her horse ready for the show tomorrow. And please, don't make comments about my mother. Okay, I hate her for what she does, but I love her because she's my mum.

I will persuade her to let someone else take me to hospital soon. It may be tomorrow, but at least i will get there.

It is important that you ice yuour leg every hour or so for about 20 minutes at a time. Use something like a packet of frozen peas, but wrap it in a tea towel so you don't get frost burns. Sit down with your leg raised on a stool or something similar. You may have bruised it, done ligaments or posibly chipped or broken a bone, either way it needs checking out at the hospital. Get your Stepfather to take you when he comes home from work.

My mum does get free private health care through work you know...

Are you a member of the "secret society"? <img src="http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

What? -..just don't do the 'is it broken' 'what should I do' thing if you have no intention of following medical advice, ie if they plaster it and tell you not to ride then there is a reason, and it isn't big or clever to ignore to ignore that advice.

Good for your mum- hope they help her to get her condition stabilised..refusing to drive when she isn't allowed to isn't being awkward BTW

She wasn't refusing to drive... just refusing to find a way to get me there...

and i have every intention of following their advice... it hurts so bad now...

I meant I would ride with one stirrup for 10 mins in the school, just plodding around.

Guys, my mum and step-dad both agree. They say that there's no point in going to hospital because the doctor will tell me that it is just a sprain. I even said: If it is hurting as bad/worse on SUNDAY, can you take me then? Answer was no. How do I tell her?

Have had a support bandage on it, and took me ages to get it on... Really hurts to move it around, left right etc...

What do I say? She's also making me show her boy inhand tomorrow

Help me please?
