Does it take two years to see your horse in all aspects of behaviour?

Having had to cope with some unusual behaviour with my ned in the last week or so, I was wondering if it is true that it can take two years to see all aspects of their personality?

Also because I have had to move my neddy 3 times in the last 20 months and now have had him at wonderful yard since April where he is happy as Larry with everything he could wish for!

I don't think thats quite true as things change don't they , My personality is different from how it was 2 years ago so surely a horses can be too

The mature or someone treats them badly or feed etc !

I think its a very good way to look at it. IMO too many people make decisions about a horse before they have given it time to settle in/bond with you and I think giving a 2 year time frame takes a lot of pressure off both parties in terms of too high expectations. So yes perhaps it does take 2 years to build a good relationship where you really know each other.

It is certainly true of our rescue dog: we were told by the lady who ran the centre it'd take 2 years for him to get totally sorted and confident with us - and she was right! It was almost 2 years when he started barking when pople walked up the drive/.rang the doorbell (which they do regularly as we sell eggs). He also has got totally trusting of us in that you can now cuddle him - before he would sometimes snap if he felt there was a possibility of being 'trapped'.

So I can quite see this would be the case with some horses. However I wonder if the windy weather this week had much to do with the behaviour?
