OK, I know I can't technically buy for another four weeks but I've been looking online and horses seem to come up rarely in Somerset, of any budget. Yet Horsemart seems to have loads of horses for sale in Yorkshire and Cumbria? Why is that? The loan horse I was interested in has turned out to be very strong in hand so not suitable to be around young children (barges and likes to tank off, won't stand still to be brushed etc). Please tell me its just a quiet time of year?

Ta! Ad horse is quite good, I hadn't looked on there before. Trade it is quiet and NFED seems to be dominated by ads from Hampshire

I think the whole markets been pretty stagnant at the moment. I have mine up for sale and haven't had a single phone call. Should pick up soon with the Spring show season getting under way and hopefully some better weather!!

I was wondering the same thing!!!!!
I am a student in Gloucestershire but will be moving back home to Somerset in a few weeks, so am looking for horses for sale in Somerset.....and I can find NOTHING suitable!
But plenty everywhere else that is too far for me to travel!

Somerset seams to lag behind with the use of new fangled technologies! When I moved here from Surrey it took me ages to find out about stuff cos it hardly ever appeared online or in H&H.

You need to do things the old fashioned way. Get a hold of some of the free magazines and start looking on tack shop noticeboards.

my parents still dont have the internet.........
I didnt have the internet until 18 months ago and that was only because I needed it for work! ;) :D

so yes inclined to agree with shazza :)

Surely you know it's the norm that when you aren't looking there are loads for sale in your own area, but when you are looking there are none! ;-)
Note the 'manual' smilie, as can't work out how to put them since forum changed...

We all tend to use 'Trade It' down ere! I've got two in there at the moment (though, we have progressed somewhat and they are now online as opposed to just in the paper!).

We even have colour TV down ere too!

Ironically I found my horse in Somerset, it was advertised in the horse and hound. I live in devon though, it's probably even worse here, luckily I'm not looking!

There are a few yards that sell, South West eventing, exmoor eventing, Tom Dunn showjumper usually has some for sell. I think it depends what people are looking for!

I found both of mine at Auction in Exeter which is I know Devon but close.....

OK Somerset peeps I was NOT implying that you are behind the times - please look at my profile for how I feel about Somerset! Its just driving me crazy that everytime I see what I want its in bloomin' Yorkshire or the midlands! Some one was on here from Yorkshire the other day saying there are always loads of horses to sell in her area - why?

And yes, I do seem to have seen loads I would have liked when I was only window shopping!

Hi EmmaJane, I'm looking for a 14hh to 15hh chunky monkey that's good with children. We really need a family pet rather than an eventing superstar so all ages considered as we have a pathetic budget.

I really need something I can get on from the ground easily as I hack out with the kids and there's ALWAYS a reason why one fo them needs me to get off! I'm five foot six and not the most supple anymore. Is he good with kids though? And I mean little ones. Temprement within our budget is the priority so I'm not going to be inflexible - as long as my feet are not dragging on the ground!

I saw him, he's gorgeous! I am tempted - let me know how it goes on Saturday and I'll see if I can prise the rusty nails out of the OH's wallet!
