Does owning a wagon mean life is now hard work???

Don't want to come accros spoilt or anything but I've worked hard to buy my horsebox and I work hard to tax, insure and maintain it. Now every tom d and Harry want to borrow it. I've not even had chance to use it myself and my mums got the keys for it so she's been lending it out asking me after she's let the person know that they can borrow it. I said to her I don't want anyone other her or myself to use it. Just got a phone call... I've told x they can borrow the wagon to move a horse onto their yard. Oh great thanks mum!!! Really getting on my nerves just had a right falling out with her. I said this is enough I want the keys back after this.

Also, will be getting the any driver insurance removed!!!!

i'm the same, i never lend my box. just too risky. They cost a load of money and if it's damaged then it's out of action for when you might need it. I bought a box half and half with a friend and we both agreed never to lend it. I felt awful at the start saying no to people, but it gets easier! I wouldn't lend people my jeep if they needed it, and that cost waaay less than my box - thats the way i see it.
 
Personally I would leave the any driver policy in case you ever have a mishap and need someone else to drive your horse home.

No one else uses my wagon.

If my mum agreed to lend it to someone, and then called me, then that person would be getting a supplementary call to say NO. It would not be me who had embarrassed my mum, it would have been my mum who had embarrassed herself.

I would also have the keys myself, I am not sure why someone else would have your keys?
 
From bad experience, I now will not take anyone else's horse in our horsebox so I fully agree with you. These lorries cost a small fortune to maintain, and nobody treats them as well as you do. All the damage done to our previous ones were by other people's horses, not one of which the owner offered to pay for I might add! Consequently, my husband has threatened me with divorce if I take another persons horse in our new one. The only exception would be a medical emergency! Put your foot down and stop it now, hide the keys if you gave to!
 
I don't blame you for being cross - imagine if someone else's horse damaged it and they couldn't afford the repairs!

The only time I have let others use mine is when I am driving myself, and know the horse well….even then it has been on a rare occasion, and if we are going to the same venue and at the same times, or for vet emergencies, but I have never 'lent out' my lorry.

I think you are within every right to demand the keys back - you pay the bills therefore your property!
 
My mate (who owns a trailer) and me (who owns a trailer) take turns in taking each other out with our ownselves. That way it's half the wear-and-tear on our own vehicles, and we aren't being asked to give lifts by friends-without-horses eyeing up the spare space in our trailers.

As for lending it out, there are maybe 2 friends that I would lend my trailer to and trust with it, in an emergency only.
 
Well I wouldn't mind a certain few borrowing you know people you trust. I don't know these people if they walked up to me in the street!

A few people have given me lifts with my pony places and they are good friends of mine who I would do that same for and I've always paid enough and always said any damage I'll pay.

You can't choose family can you grrrrrrr
