Hi

I'm currently doing an end of year project on this topic mentioned above.
I'd like some input from the event rider to see opinions on this matter.

What would also be very helpful is, if you don't mind, you had any results I could use, from times such as when you started eventing (rider wasn't very fit, if at all), to now, (fit/moderately fit). Preferably on the same horse.

I'd be really grateful for any infomation you could give me.

there is no doubt a rider will ride better when fit than unfit. The main reason being with fitness (if fitness gained correctly of course ;) ) comes core strength which improves balance and core stability. When 'holding' the horse together with your stomach/abdominal muscles and seat you will be a lot more effective when those muscles are fit and toned.

Fitness though for riding is nor necessarily cardiovascular fitness but a great deal of muscular fitness. Cardiovascular will be most important for eventers who need to be able to hold themselves out the saddle for long periods where as I would say muscular fitness is more important for dressage riders, although as can be seen looking at any pro a good level of both is best. :)

Without a doubt - as Santa_claus has said its all about core strength then CV fitness. If you look at videos of my first event of the season last year compared to my last when I was a lot fitter the difference is quite shocking! PM if you want to see the vids :)
