Thanks AmyMay, where abouts do you think she needs to build up?

I have tried to keep her on the lighter side due to her age.

Last summer I was away for three weeks and came back to a hippo. As the ground had also gone solid I found it a struggle to get the weight off her and she didnt seem happy to be carrying the extra weight (slightly shuffly).

Can you reccomend any exercises I could work on to build the areas she needs work on?

Ah, fair enough - ignore me then.

As Mother Hen really, school work will help build up her muscle, as will lots of lovely hill work.

are there any schooling exercises which would help build her up behind. I have a passoa, do you think this may help to use once- twice a week? (i havent used it in ages!!)

The pessoa is great for really encouraging the horse to use the back and hindquarters so yes, I would say use that - but only in walk and trot and on the lower settings - it is quite hard work for them.

Well interstingly enough my saddler recommended a pessoa to me the other day for helping to build up muscle. Thumper has some muscle wastage under his saddle - which has not improved over the winter disappointingly. I've obviously not been doing the right work with him.

I've actually purchased some bungie reins instead - but if you have a pessoa, then yes go for it.
