My little mares had lots of problems with her front hooves this year :( She had laminitis in June and since then shes had thrush constantly no matter what i do, her frogs are starting to get very soft and breaking away. Ive tried all the treatments i can think of, purple spray for the thrush, hoof hardener, different hoof oils and still her feet wont improve :o
Her hooves on the outside look fine, strong and healty its just underneath and her frogs that are suffering, do you think shoes will help?

What are you feeding? How much work does she do?

Shes on a handful of hi-fi lite, some nuts in her treat ball, oil for a slipping stifle. Was going to try a feed supplement for her hooves but she wont eat her feed if theres anything in it :o
Shes currently just lunging walk/trot a few times a week to build up her muscle around her stifle and shes sound again now so heading in the right direction :)
Shes never ridden, but normally does a lot of lunging and is walked out inhand for little hacks ect she doesnt just get left in the field :)

I suspect she needs some minerals, even just magnesium.
There are tricks to get them to eat it. Micronised linseed also very good for joints.

Don't shoe. Ask your farrirr to have a look as frog problems can often be due to the hoof wall being too high, especially if she grow good horn and therefore the frog isn't contacting the ground sufficiently well. It may be necesary to have her trimmed a little more often. Shoes will only make the problem worse.
