My 4yr old welsh D went hunting for the first time this weekend and was ridden (by a friend) in her Fulmer French Link bit, friend said she was very strong but nothing i couldn't handle...said that when i take her (ive never been before) she she be put in a Pelham?
Will this ruin her mouth?
I know many horses go in these but i want to keep her mouth soft
Help! Any advice will be great, thanks!

it'll only ruin her mouth if you have to haul on it a lot, tbh! although, my equine dentist sees more damaged bars of mouth from pelham (big fat vulcanite or rubber ones) than any other bit, he told me...
i think as long as the steering's good i'd rather have one in a gag with two reins, so it's like a normal snaffle until you have to use the curb, tbh.

Put her in a voulcanite(sp) on two reins if you can manage, this way if she is going nicely you can ride her simply off the snaffle ring, using the bottom only when she is pulling. I would much rather put a strong bit in and only have to take a couple of pulls before she listens than take 100pulls in a snaffle.

Thanks for your reply.

Maybe it was first time excitment for her. At home i can ride her on hardly any contact..
I'll see how she goes when i take her!
