Is there a product on the market that you can put onto rugs to stop other horse biting / eating it? I'm thinking of something like the stuff you put on your nails to stop you chewing them or the dog version which stops them eating furniture.
One of the horses in the field will not leave Hovis' rug alone and is constantly biting and pulling at it. I jus want to put something on it (on the outside) which might put him off a bit! Obviously don't want to do him any harm but he's wrecking rugs and its stressing Hovis out.

Before taking such a drastic measure, have you spoken to the owner of the horse? Try explaining to them that you cannot afford to replace the rugs and if her horse continues to do this, she will have to replace any damage.... also tell the YO that you dont want the horse out with yours as yours is getting stressed out by being constantly niggled by this horse.... also explain to the YO that you cant afford to keep replacing rugs..... Good luck, not a nice situation to find yourself in!

You used to be able to get a product call cribox, not sure if its still available. You could put it on stable doors, fences and my friend used to use it on rugs. Its a tarry substance,so may leave your rugs a bit greasy!!But it did work!

Yep have spoken to the owner and she just shrugs. She is a silly moo to be honest and I'm finding it very difficult to stay civil with her. I don't want to cause a massive fuss as we're the new kids on the block at the yard and she has been there ages.
It only happens when they're all congregating by the gate to come in at night. Then the horse (X) will not leave Hovis' bum alone. The other night i found him trying to mount Hovis.
The YO is aware and has taken to bringing my two boys in as he know that Hubby and I are always there about 5pm as its the earlier we can get away from work.
I just wondered if it tasted vile he wouldn't want to do it quite so much!

I accidentally tried that yumyum and didnt do me any harm, hd sprayed and forgot to wash hands, went to eat sandwich and wondered what the disgusting taste was!!

Even after a drink (a litre lol) and chewing gum, mints etc the taste was still there, ewww

Why don't you buy the hottest chillies and grind them down into a paste adding a little oil and smear it on the rug....once done at a yard I was at and the said horse in question doing the damage did not come back for more....spent alot of time wiping his mouth round his legs and at the water trough strangley....also you can buy sauces made up this way,but the above mentioned works wonders!

Yes OC chillies work wonders. We used chilly powder, very cheap and effective.!!
If this other horse is trying to mount your horse,is he a young horse that has been recently cut,or may be he hasnt been cut properly?

Cribox stick or spray, i licked the stick the other day and it is really horrid!! im going to buy some for the rugs and my colt is chewing bears lovely tail!!

oh dear, its never nice being the new kid on the block especially when things are not going well.....
I would suggest remaining civil and talking to the other owner again, if she just shrugs, tell her if that is her reaction you will have no option that get her to replace the rugs....
We used to have a horse on a yard I was at previously, who would windsuck off other horses rugs and it totally wrecked one horses rug... I dont know how the owner of the damaged rug remained so calm as she merely repaired said rug... I on the other hand, protested when said horse was going to be turned out with mine and said no way! I was at that time selling a mare, and the other horse had been seen mounting mares etc, so I just explained that the mare had no blemishes, was up for sale and I would not put up with her being possibly injured for no reason!
Good luck!
