I'd rather spend money on riding than new clothes. All my riding stuff is old*. I'm wearing 20 year old jodhpurs, my boots were bought as seconds probably 15 years ago. The only riding length waterproof coat I have is at least 25 years old.
I've sewn up the back seam in the jodhs more than once, and have recently stuck the coat back together with Gorilla tape where it wore out & frayed into a ginormous hole. Today I noticed that the soles on my boots are detaching from the uppers. If I were to stick them back together with Gorilla tape would it count as matchy matchy? Could I finally be 'on trend'?

* apart from my hat which is new...

I once had to gorilla tape my jeans back together after they split from crotch to hip across my backside at the start of a full day's organised training ride...
I did a lot of sitting trot!

I have one pair of breaches for hunting. Otherwise I ride in trackies or leggings and usually with cage stirrups so I can ride in trainers and no one can see the holes in them. They're at least 40% superglue by now but comfy so I refuse to bin them.

And I amused my mother a few months ago when I pulled out a coat that she said reminded her of one she'd bought me as a child (I'm mid 30s) so I pulled it off to show her the name tag she'd sewn in.
She was very smug about buying me things I'd grow into 🤣

Please don't duct tape the sole of your boot to the upper. If you fell and got the gap in boot caught on the stirrup, it could be nasty.

Not quite what happened here, rider got thrown and dragged because her boot got stuck on the protruding nub on the footplate of the stirrup [she had Acavallos that opened, but then caught her boot]

sounds like a description of my wardrobe, I had to chuck my T-shirt when the fabric was literally falling to threads.

Most of my riding gear is (roughly 5 years) older than me, and handed down to me from my mother. I have a duct taped dressage whip if you need a matchy fly swatter 🤣

you may need new boots to go with the new hat - that could be matchy matchy!

But don't take my advise I generally ride looking like a rainbow has vomited on us.
Have you seen the price of new boots o_O Even on ebay they are the price of several riding lessons.
I was looking on ebay yesterday and was momentarily distracted by purple suede dressage boots - they were my size too - but I didn't pursue it for several reasons. No. 1 I am rubbish at dressage, no. 2 I have nothing else that's purple so there would be no hope of matching and no.3 they were VERY expensive.

The thing is, I can't see stuff produced today lasting long enough to pass down to an offspring. I like old things that last.

I swapped from long boots to paddock boots and half-chaps a few years ago. The boots do for all outdoor pursuits - sometimes a good insole will transform cheap boots to the comfort of fancy ones. I've got chaps in leather in the same style as the suede ones, they polish up smartish

This is me! I have two pairs of Ariat paddock boots on the go, one my current riding pair and the other downgraded to garden boots. Insole of even older pair of same boots now used in another pair of shoes. Leather chaps are worn until the zip breaks.
