I put a post on the other day about hacking alone. Took everyones advice on board and went out for a little hack today on my own (and horse of course)!! Does it count if it was only 15 - 20 mins around the centre of the village? was a bit scared to head out to open countryside alone so went round the village. Went pretty well, met with a couple of scary stones, scary post lady, and scary garden watering system. But all ok, I concentrated on my breathing, talked him through everything and concentrated on my reaction with the reins when he looked at something. Really did notice a terrible habit I have of pulling the reins up as soon as he shows interest in something, so stopped this straight away and just let him look, keeping reins loose and long. He did speed up at the end downhill especially after seeing scary watering system, so may do it the other way round next time so we go up hill. But he did me proud when at the very end we encountered a boy racer, who swerved off the road to miss a car as he took a corner to fast on the wrong side, then continued at same speed towards me and horse only slowing slightly down to laugh out of window before reving off!!! OMG how stupid and scary, but thank goodness it was not something that scared my horse as that could have been very very bad!!! Anyway just feeling a bit proud so thought would tell you all as you all gave me loads of great advice. Next step new hack in hand when move him to mine.

Yes it does count as hacking, you went out alone so you have made the first step and have something to work on well done!

Definitely counts. If you are having problems, it is better to do a shorter successful hack than a longer hack where the horse behaves badly and you both end up getting upset. The key with napping is to make the horse feel completely safe out on his own and this should be done by gradually building up hack lengths.

Crikey sounds like it wasn't easy for either of you, but well done - you did it, and yes it was hacking! Have another go, get more confidence and you'll soon hopefully be unaware of the time altogether!

Yes I would say that was a Hack, and I am a Hacking expert ask anyone who knows me :p, I have met hundreds of re....... errrr idiots, but not a French one, so you beat me there ;) well done :)

Well done you xxx I know how you are feeling, been there, worn the T-shirt. I still take Kalms tablets before I ride. Little and often worked for me. Good luck x

My hacks used to take me round the middle of Vauxhall in London with a short break for pony to stick his head through the window of a (parked and engine turned off) van to say hello to the driver with whom he had made friends, so that sounds like a proper old hack to me OP:D

Well done you, of course it counts as hacking. Hacking on your own can be very scary, especially with all the horse/pony eating monsters that are just lying in wait. I bet you can't wait to go out again tomorrow.
