Recently bought the NS Verbindend and wanted to check whether it looks right in his mouth.

I apologize for the awful photo and lack of others - it was taken off my phone and cheeky pony wouldn't stand still!!

Also which side is the little triangle supposed to be on or does it not matter?

Many thanks.

It should tell you on the label. If I remember correctly, the point of the triangle should be pointing away from the horse.

* It is over 5 years since I used the bit and I no longer have it, so am happy to be corrected :) *

I bought it second hand so sadly don't have any labels, instructions etc.

Do you think it looks ok in his mouth? I tried a hole lower and it was very close to hitting his teeth but I can't work out whether it now looks too high!

Thanks

Bit looks fine, any lower and it would be too low.
The arrow is supposed to be on the left hand side of the bit according to some lovely HHO'er who pointed it out to me when I posted pics. My mare is in the same bit btw.

No, not too high.

Brilliant, thank you both!

I will check bridle to see that the arrow is on the left.

Is the mouthpiece of the bit meant to curve at that angle? I don't know anything about this particular bit, nor is it easy to tell from the photograph, but to me it looks as if the bit has been attached back to front, and the mouthpiece is slightly curved the wrong way? IYKWIM!

I don't know about the bit but you could ring Heather Hyde if you're worried.
However I'd be concerned that the noseband might interfere with the action of the bit, as they are touching in your photo.

The triangle needs to be on the left side, ie near side, and its got to be facing outwards. So seems youve got it the wrong way round as i cant see the triangle?

Hi, the bit does have quite a big curvature. Here is the link to the bit on the NS website: http://www.nsbits.com/index.php/dressage-legal/verbindend.html

I am 100% sure it hasn't been put on back to front, thanks anyway though :)

His bridle is new too so the noseband especially sticks out a bit as it's not completely supple. I could use his old noseband until the leather's suppled enough though if the new one might interfere in the mean time, thank you.

The arrow is ment to be on the horses left hand side with the arrow pointing forwards - away from the horse.

The point of the arrow must point forwards

I also thought from the picture that the bit was he wrong way around

Thanks everyone. Just checked his bridle and I do indeed have the arrow on the left pointing forward so I guess put it on correctly :) I can't actually see the triangle either in the photo but I can assure you it is there! If you look carefully you can see the 'NS' on the mouthpiece which is on the same side as the arrow.

Thanks again everyone.

Aha! From seeing that photo you have definitely put in in the right way round - but you can see why I got confused because the angle of the curve bends the "wrong" way at first and that was the piece of the bit I could see! :)

Very confusing isn't it! Honestly, just for a snaffle bit!! :D

Bit level looks fine however I think you may have problems with it catching on the noseband - do you really need a crank noseband?

Thanks. As I said above his bridle is new and isn't supple so the 'loop' of the noseband sticks out a bit. I noticed it catching with his previous bit but have checked and once it's suppled up it should lie closer to his face and not interfere. Fingers crossed!

No I don't need a crank noseband but needed a bridle asap and couldn't find a bridle without unfortunately!
