Does this seem cheap?

It doesnt seem cheap to me if im honest, yes its a decent little horse, looks and sounds cracking, but at 14 is at the end of competition years, I wouldnt fork out that for anything over 1oyo...

do we write off older horses in competition now? no offence
i used to know a lady who was still team chasing and eventing her mare at 20 and a pony on our yard is still competing at shows be it a little slower than your average at 26!

I think the point being made is that as an older horse its likely to have a s little as 2/3 yrs left although it may well last longer.
I do agree on that score, but what would a younger horse, say 10-12 with that experience go for?

very true!! and i see both sides. i wud personally buy an older horse, i bought mine at 11 but he seems to be one of those hard little mites that will just keep going and going and going!

Not to me. But then I would never spend that sort of money on any horse - quite ludicrous if you ask me.

i couldnt spend that amount on any horse, i worry so much about my £120 - £2500 ponies anyway that i would kill myself from stress if i had to look after anything more than that!!! i stress enough over them. but then my horses purpose are not for serious competition like eventing etc and im seriously skint too!

wouldn't anyone be a little worried if the horse had done that much and was still 6? I think it sounds lovely and has obviously had time taken with it instead of being hammered into the ground! LOVELY HORSE, and worth the money I would say x

Im not saying I write them off- I hunted my mare until she was 24, so no, I am in no way "writing off" older horses. I personally wouldnt buy a horse of that age for that price.

My horse is huntsman's horse at 21, but that doesn't mean he'd be able to withstand ** and *** competitions, it takes an exceptional horse to still be at the top beyond 18. This sounds like a fantastic horse for a young person wanting to climb up the ranks though, and the price sounds reasonable.

"but at 14 is at the end of competition years,"

Oh i wouldnt say that, i bought my gelding (small picture) at 13, he's still going strong and is 21 in March - off to the SJ finals in April.
