I'm looking for a SJ/Event/Schoolmaster type horse that's perhaps looking for a quieter life to do RC level stuff.

But to honest I'm really struggling to find this type of horse for loan. Loads of general happy hacker/companion type horses but no competition horses.

Do people loan this out and if so any ideas where I can find them advertised??

Any help gratefully received. :)

Yes there are but like good all rounders for sale, they are like gold dust and must be snapped up quickly. I think a lot of those types of horses will fetch good prices so a lot do go up for sale rather than loan.

I asked about a 16.1 ex-event mare for loan near Badminton, sadly she was snapped up before I got the chance.

A woman I know has on loan an ex-intermediate eventer by Ben Faerie, but she had a hard time finding him too :)

I have been loaning for a few years and can only seem to find completely batty project horses or very green horses looking for experience.

Most of this type will go by word of mouth. You could try contacting your local PC/RC and ask them if they know of anything. I'm always getting emails via my PC of horses for loan.

Thanks for all your help guys. I am based in Notts/Derbys border.

Not looking for something 100%, don't mind a few vices/quirks, providing I know what I'm dealing with. I'm an experienced rider/owner and have my own small private yard so the horse would have a 5* home. Would just like something that's been there and done it if possible....

They do exist but are like hen's teeth and competition to loan them is fierce!

my Pilfer is out on loan and has won 3 x PN, is an unaffiliated rosette collector, sensible to hack, lovely to jump and a true schoolmaster.

I could have loaned/sold him a dozen times over and never even advertised him.

after trying all of the usual sites perhaps look at trying to find one word of mouth?

TBH I looked in ads for over a year without any luck, they tend to come by word of mouth. I put feelers out at a few good competition yards as they have liveries which are much more the types you would be looking for. We found ours within a couple of months of doing this. Although we did end up buying him in the end ;-)

Horse Mart now have a loan section on their website. :) Another good website is preloved. There always seems to be horses for loan on their. Also, another good idea is if you have facebook, put it as your status to let everyone know what you are looking for. Hope you find the horse you are looking for soon. :)
