Is there such a thing as a loaner, who just wants to hack out and enjoy going for a ride, but is a good enough rider to cope with a forward going quirky little horse?
Basically I have a 8 y/o 15.2hh TB type mare bought her as a 3 y/o eventing project, ended up spending 4 years working hard with her, could not for the life of me work out why she was so difficult, had vets, physios, all kinds of instructors out to her who were not any help, eventually she was diagnosed by the vets last year and they advised me to find her a hacking or companion home.
She went to a loan home last year, and was apparently very sensible, but came back after a month for some reason to do with the yard (?) never got a straight answer and not entirely sure what went on.. She is a good looking little mare, and when I advertised her for loan, I had hundreds of people ringing up expecting her to do everything even though I stated she will only ever just be a hack!
However she is not a walk in the park, she is the sweetest to do on the ground, easy peasy. Mostly ridden she is good but forward going, can get fizzy when cantering and has been known to throw in a buck or two if excited. She is quirky, the type that could get het up, has a bit of a TB brain, but chilled out in lots of other ways too. Perfect in heavy traffic/ open spaces/ on own etc. Is really a fab and fun hack, but not for a novice she has to be ridden although she has chilled considerably since she stopped 'real' work, she is no plod.
Shes been sat in my field since October, as I dont have the time to just hack her with being at Uni and having another horse to keep fit. But shes desperately bored. She is the sweetest, kindest mare you will find never lifted a leg to anything, shares her feed with the other horses truly Ive never known such a gentle horse.
I will not sell, think she will be bored in a companion home, and do not have the space nor money to keep her hanging around home so is there a hacking home that wants to only hack, but not ride a plod?!
My only other option that I havent disregarded is having her PTS but wanted to exhaust all other options first...
