My husband bought my new horse from Germany and I was lucky enough to be invited out there for a weeks training on him before he came to England. When I got home I said he's lovely to ride (we try to do dressage) but he's very quiet. I like horses with a bit of spark and unpredictability about them. He has turned into a horse with a massive personality and really keeps me on my toes. We fight over headcollars if he gets it in his teeth first it is a battle to get if off him. He steals grooming brushes and throws them around the yard. He is a star but not a novice horse to ride or do. Just wondered if anyone else bought a horse home who turned into the *mouse that roared*!!

Mine has always been a cheeky monkey...which is just how I like him! I can't leave things on his stable door because he throws them on the floor - but he only does this if I'm around, because he knows it annoys me.

I've known him to throw his food bowl across the yard because he wants me to fill it up.

Last night I got off him, and my phone rang just as i was about to leave the school. While I was distracted, he grabbed my whip with his teeth, and threw it out of the school.

He "talks" and grumbles when he doesn't want to do something, it's such a strange little noise and really makes me laugh.

Yep

sounds like you were talking about my boy! Although he was quiet because he didn't really trust people so I spent lots of time with him and his personality shone through! Although he has a bit too much now if you ask me

Definaltly. Our boys are complete lambs around the public but in the stable, esp scrooge, they pick up things and throw them around, push on the partitions which is making the ceiling fall down.... scroo likes to put everything in his mouth, last week he ripped down a laminated sign about harnessing demonstrations and is always trying to chew on his reins, he's also been known to growl! Magnus also grinds his teeth almost constantly at the moment even though he doesnt bite or kick. Gota love the old man tho

That sounds like Gov! The first time I had him shod he leant round, grabbed the end of the farrier's apron and promptly undid the belt sending the whole apron (complete with tools) clattering to the ground.

He's not impolite (unless its some circumstance where he should be...i.e. vet turns up with a vet student) but he does have some quirks. His comic timing is also brilliant, I was telling someone what a cracking buy he's turned out to be for me and how he's actually quite intelligent. I turned round to see him standing with his head over the field gate flopping/smacking his lips together (making a strange noise) and looking a bit special.

Lacey has a massive character she makes me laugh every day, and i swar she's almost human, but Willow is a bit quieter.

Yes and I love him for it...he is a real cheeky so and so that keeps me on my toes but I would not swop him for the world.

Our spotty boy is really cheeky and has been from day one. He loves throwing his bucket out at anyone who wonders past his stable, he has quite a good aim!! and in general is a cheeky monkey. We have a section d on loan who was a real grumpy boy when we took him on but his cheeky nature is slowly coming through.

Yes he does - sometimes a little too much being that he is 17'2 and 5 years old and very cheeky chap! Anything within reach he will pick up and throw at you - favourite things include feed buckets, half full water buckets, wheelbarrows (usually when full)! He eats his reins/headcollar etc, he constantly unties himself, he has been known to jump the 5 bar out of his field and take himself back to his stable when bored/too hot/tired of turn out and regularly nibbles on the farrier's bum when being shod!

My little SJ was a real cheeky chap. He would canter in his stable so you could here and then when you shouted he'd put his head over the door and look round with this "What ME" look on his face. Always made us laugh. Also if you tried to do anything in the field he would steel things. Or if we were in the landy he'd put his head in the window.
Also my old Mare would reply to you when you called for her. She also Blew Raspberries - with her mouth. It was purely attention seeking, but it worked

Flash has a larger than life personality, and I wouldn't change it for the world. He has me in stitches every day with his antics. He's like a puppy, he plays with everything. Yesterday YO was saying how he had taken an enormous branch off the bonfire and was dragging it round the field. He then left it and went to get another then went back for it. When he picked it up it made all the other horses jump, including him, but he forgot to drop it and was chasing his only friend with the branch

He had to be moved from his old stable because every morning they were finding he had pulled all the protective foam off the pipes and thrown it around the stable. He picks up all the brushes one by one from the grooming kit and throws them, follows you round when you are poo picking and empties out the bucket or wheelbarrow if you turn away for a second. When I was cooling him off after a jumping lesson he stretched his neck ride down and I didn't realise until everyone started laughing that he'd picked up a stick and was just carrying it around the school

He also takes his boots off as fast as you put them on, and at my old yard he got so good azt untying and opening his gate that he'd beat you back to the stable after you'd turn him out

Whisk picks sticks up in the field and carries them round with him. He jumps out if he gets bored and then stands on the wrong side of the fence wondering how to get back to his stable. He steals hoofpicks when you are trying to pick out his feet. You cannot leave anything over his door or near it "cos he will grab it and trample it in his stable. He won't drop his bit when you take his bridle off and eats reins and anything expensive given half the chance. But I love him and wouldn't be without him.

My boy has a massive personality and I love him for it, I've now had to put a warning on his stable as he destroys anything left within reach including removing the front of the YO's jacket when she let her guard down, yesterday I went to catch my other boy and Squirt followed me up the field as as I got near to TJ he grabbed the headcollar in his teeth and dragged me away from TJ. He is such a clown and clearly very clever and sharp.
He has also stolen old YO's sunglasses off her head when she was poo picking, he undoes his door, he unties himself, takes his rug off if you don't do it up quick enough, picks his brushes of the shelf in his stable and lobs them at people the list is endless!

Sounds like your horse has a real German personality - not shy or retiring, but very much in the foreground, and wanting to stay there! I should know - my OH is German.

But that said, he's also a real softie, so if he's true to form, your horsey should follow suit..... You're in for an interesting time together.

I wouldn't say my boy is the mouse that roared but he really is funny. He once went up to some one in a van who was making a fuss of him stuck his head threw the open window and nicked the chap's sandwiches!!
grin.gif
He's also tried getting in someone's wheelchair converted vehicle as it had a ramp and he fancied a lift home, luckily they saw the funny side. He really is a very lovable little bloke and he just loves people and being made a fuss of.

I have to say that Ty is not only the bane of my life but also the love of my life....a very loving horse that will test the boundarys! he'll nibble your bum when picking out his feet and will always watch what you're doing if y ou're grooming his back etc....just love him to bits!!

Just hoping that Oscar will learn to trust too.....be a long road though!

Badger is quite dull really.

Although he did grab hold of a sweeping brush and wang it at my mum when she was mixing his feed out side his stable the other day, that made me chuckle!

Yup. Mine follows u around like a dog, breaks into the food bin (which is a metal coal bunker), pushes things off stable doors, chews lead ropes and lots of other things. He's crazy..
