does your horse lay down often in his box?

There is often evident that mine do, but I hardly ever see it. So it was a real surprise yesterday to find Blitz having a snooze

I felt honoured that he remained lying down when I snuck into his box for a snuggle. I had a lovely snuggle, and managed to lay right over him (he hasn't been sat on yet) with no ear twitching. It was a real temptation to sit astride him, but that would have been really daft, just in case he objected (alone at the yard at 10pm)

Every night without fail.
If they didn't have shavings in their tail (and often in mane & ears too!) I would be mildly concerned with mine

Mine use to regularly be found covered in shavings, although you would rarely catch her lying down. She tends to LOVE a fresh bed of shavings- not so much straw, that gets eaten!

Lately she has taken to laying down in the field and continuing to eat where she can reach, and at times I have caught her absolutely flat out.. I almost was tempted to give her a kick to check she was still alive...just enjoying the rare bit of winter sunshine throughout the day!

I can predict that mine will be alseep from approx 11ish till 2/3ish lol :) if hes not i would be worried! When i get home i will share some pics

Elvis spends more time horizontal than he does vertical! He's often lying down in his field or stable and doesn't feel the need to get up when people potter around him. On occasions he's been standing up while I've been sorting his stable and then decided to lie down and watch me instead. In the past I've wasted hours sitting next to him while he snoozes, there is something very peaceful about resting your head on a sleeping horse, it's like just for that moment in time all is right with the world.

Every night, judging from the nice flat compacted state of his bed but I have never seen him down in his stable, only in the field. He's not the type to stay down if there's anything going on at all, including just someone walking about so I've never been able to get close enough for a cuddle.

Not in his field shelter but in the field yes, spring and early summer I caught him snoozing a lot and could sit on the floor with him while he slept but I've only caught him lying down once in winter but I find big mud beds :-)

I think one of mine spends most of his life asleep! Went out last night to do the evening check, he was asleep. Skipped out round him and had a sneaky cuddle. He was having pony dreams and I probably wasted 15mins just siting with him, whilst he twitched and whiffled with his ears a flicker and his legs going. Managed to skip the others out and give them all a goodnight kiss, without him waking up! Have loads of photographs of the sleeping bay pony!

Mine do, made all the more cute by the fact that the 'box' is actually a field shelter. I make them a proper bed in there (now on straw, with paper underneath and mats under that) and every morning there is straw in tails, manes and sometimes ears. Hardy Exmoors they are not... :D

One of mine will come straight in and lie down as I put his water and hay ready. He will not lay down in the field if its in the least bit wet and he gets very tired and agitated if he cant lay down

Both of mine lay down on a regular basis although there was no evidence of it from one of them this morning who, when I went out to catch her back in after an hour (had chucked her out while I mucked out) was nowhere to be seen (7am and still dark) eventually found her laying down at the far end of the field, happily laid there while I gave her a cuddle, put her head in my lap and started snoring - I've not long had her so at this point was going between 'how lovely to see her so relaxed and settled' and 'oh b****r, she's colicking, I need the vet!'. Eventually got up after about fifteen minutes but not before I'd aged 20 years!

yes, they all do-the youngest has a lay down around 9-10am regardless of where he is and they all take it in turns to lay down between about 1.30 and 3pm-again whether in or out. They all lay down overnight at some point if in.

The three that live in with turn out lie down all the time ,every night and it's very common to find them lying during the day .
The one that lives out is not it worries me a bit but there's not a lot I can do about it .

My old pony used to live out, and when I brought him into a stable he'd be straight down and flat out asleep within minutes. Didn't object to any cuddles while he was snoozing either

Yes! She lies down every night and her rug and tail are covered in bedding each morning. I rarely see her lying down in the stable though, liveries arrive early at my yard - 5am onwards so by they time I get there (6am) she's up and waiting for breakfast.

Mine lay down every night. In summer when they are turned out overnight and in during the day they both come in and sleep.

They also do plenty of rolling in the field looking at the state of them when they come in!

My mare snuggles down in her straw every night, she's often snoozing when I do late night checks but I try to not let her see me as she always leaps up and starts bouncing about expecting to do something! I assume our gelding lies down at night as he sometimes has shavings in his mane and tail, though have never caught him doing it here - I did sometimes at our old house.

I seem to have the exception,if i find Chess down in his box there's a problem. He does like a lie down in the field tho' usually flat out in the muddiest spot.:)

All the time - his rugs are always covered in straw, as is his tail - and in the summer he is covered in stable stains. In the five years I've had him, he's only been spotted lying down twice (and never by me). He is too nosy by half - so if anyone walks into the barn or anywhere near his stable, he has to get up and investigate.

Yes all of mine do :) particularly in the summer when it's warm! My ISH has his bed swept round the sides and he will make his bed by pawing it all down, spreading it out and then lying down for a sleep. Very cute!

My baby Connemara the day after he arrived from Ireland, very tired! he was very restless until we got there, soon as we sat down with him he stretched out and went fast asleep. We had to sit there for ages so he felt happy to sleep :D
