Does your instructor answer his/her phone during lessons? I was just pondering whether this was deemed acceptable or whether I was being too soft in not saying I was rather irritated that up to five minutes of my money was being spent not teaching me...? Or is it just "one of those things"?
Only problem is, she's too good to stop going to

No way, I would be very angry if they did that! only one instructor on my yard is allowed to and that is because she has a disabled daughter and can get into problems, she would only answer these calls though.

Mine has only done it once and it was a v brief call. Usually she just ignores it. I had one instructor who spent most of my lesson yakking on her mobile - needless to say she is now my ex-instructor. Bl**dy cheek I thought.

i teach.... i would never answer my phone , except in an emergency , i also have an autistic son and he likes to ring constantly , i make sure mine is off and husbands is switched on , i have had the odd client answer her phone though lol

My instructor does occasionally, and today she had along chat with some other livery about something during my lesson but it sounded quite important so I wasn't too bothered.

I am an instructor - I will answer a call in my lessons if I recognise the number due to a number of reasons (including various members if the family fearing I'm dead if I dont answer the phone and causing major panic!!!). However I always answer the phone with 'Hello ******, I'm teaching at the moment, is it important?' This means if there is a colic/emergency/etc that I DO need to deal with I know straight away, otherwise the call is generally only a few seconds and I always apologise.

See, THAT I would approve of. It would be awful for my instructor to miss a really important call just because she was teaching me, but sometimes I get a bit fed up (especially if I'm on the lunge... I mean, I can practise my position whilst I'm going round but more than a few circuits gets a bit silly!)
I suppose I am in two minds because one of my two instructors is old-fashioned and doesn't use a mobile phone, and wouldn't answer her home phone whilst teaching as it would involve walking out of the school up into the yard. Other instructor isn't really that bad TBH most of the time...
Interesting to see the mixed reactions though!

My instructor has never answered her phone during my lesson but i wouldnt mind if it was very brief.

I adroe my inst and she can do no wrong in my eyes she is so supportive of me and my unpredictable horse.

Very occasionally she will answer the phone but its always very quick and she does say 'i'm teaching is it urgent'

Anyway I love my instructor as does Crop so I would forgive her along as it wasn't intruding on our lesson too much

My instructor regularly gets interrupted by one of the girls having a panic over something or other - don't really mind as I have private lessons and generally just carry on with whatever we were doing until she comes back into the school. If she takes a while she always lets the lesson overrun as she is really good like that

I teach and would answer the phone BUT I would never chat while teaching. I just ask what the call is about and say I will call back. I don't mind my instructor answering the phone as long as it's a case of a few seconds. It's lack of respect really if someone goes on on the phone while teaching and I wouldn't like having my lessons disturbed in this way.

I did, however, had clients answering their phones at RC rallies and disturbing other people's training!

there is one instructor i know that is ALWAYS on her phone!!!

i teach and only answer if its the YO or mother and, again, like someone already said ill answer "hi ....... im teaching at the moment is it important" nine times out of ten its not actually that important and it can wait!!!

Mine has done now and again and a couple of times has had quite long chats. However, she is a mate and charges us next to nothing so I've never complained. Also, she's first to help if my horse is poorly and has given me a hand a few times when I've been out competing, so its give and take.
However, if I was paying proper rates on a more professional basis I would be annoyed.

Mine only answered or had her phone on her when she was selling her horse, and someone was phoning back to arrange a time, but before the lesson started she asked me if I would mind, and she made the time up that she spent on the phone by over running the lesson.

Another instructor of mine did answer her phone a couple of times in the lesson but did say she was teaching and was it important but apologised after.

Most of the time I dont know where my phone is so dont answer, but if its on me I will generally answer if I am teaching freelance and say I'll ring back later, but never if I'm teaching in one of the riding schools, I'll leave it in the car.
