Does your mare get sharper to ride when in season?

Usually I can't detect my mare's seasons, but this year they have been clearer to spot. She is always very well behaved to handle but today she was really sharp to ride - looking at every leaf and bird and I had to actually ride her to ensure that she behaved in the traffic (although we were hacking with another

) She is obviously in season today, smelling the other horse, lifting her tail but ears back if he got close - could the sharpness be due to the season ? Or because she is fit as a flea? Should I try Oestress or just ride her better ?

Prob ber season. I put Corroy on Regumate as she was vile to ride in season and she was ALWAYS in season. She still spooks at leaves though

My Mare is the complete opposite when she is in season. It is all I can do to get her to move if we are out with the boys. She will plod along and just keep stopping and showing off!

One of my mares isn't sharper when in season, but she's a right cow to catch!

They're also both a bit more clingy to one another about being separated if one is in season.

Thanks for all the replies, sounds like an open verdict on whether the seasons have made her sharp....more likely to be that she is very fit - and I need to up my game!

My 5 year old is in season at the moment and being a witch to ride. I had a lesson on her on Friday and she was bucking and throwing her back end right up. My riding instructor was amazed I managed to say on top, she said there would be no way she would have stayed on!!

I schooled her in the field this morning and although she wasn't trying to kill me she was arguing about everything, refusing to bend, chucking her head around and trying to canter off. She is very well behaved to school when she is not in season. My other mare who I've had for 18 years is a compelete tart when she is in season, but doesn't affect her riding.

Does anyone have any suggestions about anything that might help? Also do you think she might get better when she is a bit older, or is she likely to always be a same!!

You can definitley tell when my mare is in season. Firstly she doesn't want to leave her 'girlies' and secondly she is soooo fizzy and bouncy when riding her - she's a right cow bag. But I don't half love her!!!
