Does your yard close early on Christmas?

I am moving to a yard which i'm pretty sure doesnt have restrictions on xmas day but I might ask ;) Oh and this xmas closing has nothing to do with my reasons for moving lol. New yard has 2 indoor arenas and 2 outdoors, competitions on site. Cant wait! :D About 50 liveries though so will be a big change.

So maybe for the sake of 1 day, just squish it all in knowing you will be fooking off anyway, lol :D
Always a question worth asking though, also worth asking if bank holidays etc are written into contract,if they are not, then they can change it without any realistic notice :D
would imagine with 50 liveries though xmas will be a normal day, seems the bigger the yard the more flexibility there is,due to staffing etc :) x

how strange!!

our YO still feeds at 6am on xmas day.... and theres no way they would close the yard early. however, i will be done and gone before 4pm anyhow :)

How strange. Is she in the right job ? Christmas Day still means responsibility for animal shelter workers, prision officers, farmers, rescue services, doctors, nurses.. in fact anyone who works with people or animals.
This YO isn't even having to offer livery services, just allow people to come and look after their horses as they do every day. If she feels liveries are an intrusion then she's in the wrong business.
I do always ask about accessibility when looking at a yard, as restrictions often indicate an attitude that the YO resents people coming and going or likes to have control over other areas.
Current yard has 3 rules. 1) Lock the tack room, 2) Shut the gate leading to the field. 3) Switch off the lights before leaving.
Very happy yard.

that would really annoy me! i want mine to go out as normal and i will go up and bring in and feed them at the usual time of 4pm ish or just as it is getting dark...it would be much more sensible to say no liveries between 12pm and 3pm or something so they can eat in peace...my horses are at the stables of a friends house, and their lounge looks over the yard so i will go up early to turn out and muck out and be quick when i go back up to bring in so as not to disturb them.

hi jo are you still at the same yard or are you talking about somewhere else? Doesnt sound like C??!

Also where is this new yard?! Sounds amazing!! #Hope you're good and happy christmas x

so your YO has just come out of hospital after a cerebal bleed (which can be fatal by the way) and has asked that for one day a year that everyone could leave the yard by 2pm, you yourself have said early in the post that you have feed at 3 before, its one day, she didn't plan to be ill and also as you are leaving is it really fair to rock the boat....................?

extra hay, extra bucket of water and wish her a happy xmas and new year

Nope I think on a DIY yard especially it is a bit off, other people have to fit around plans too. Fair enough close for few hours for a bit of piece and queit but its entirely unreasonable and not needed....another day as far as a horse is concerned, they don't understand it's xmas day lol:D

Certainly not. My livieries come and go when they please! Christmas is just another day to the animals. They are all aware of the times we will be eating and they just get on with what they want! They do know they can yell for me in an emergency though.....

:D

Im open every day of the year but having only OAps or resting horses I don't have the 'traffic' of a normal yard. I'll have tomorrow off then will work till the 4th when my groom comes back from his xmaz holiday. Please don't forget that your YO and grooms have the right to have a 'normal' Christmas, just like you! We are not robots and have family and relatives too!

I keep my horse at home so do not have this problem but I would be inclined to find another yard I don't like the idea of them not being checked for so long !!

Yard closes at 5pm Xmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day - YO happily feeds and hays in the evening though so long as we leave their dinners out :)

Hey Suzie! Nooo not Bromson. I left Warks in June to move back to Aberdeenshire and move in with my mum again. Not even a week after transporting Tia up here she had to be pts cuz of a tumor in her chest :( Was a big shock. Found Cooper a month later so have been on the search for a yard up here with an indoor (and has a diy space) cuz of the awful weather!

Hollyandivy - I'm not rocking the boat. I havent complained to my YO about her closing early. I was just finding out if anyone else's YOs close the yard early and voicing a bit of frustration. Will be leaving extra hay and feed out and will just be making sure YO or probably her sons will be seeing to the horses later.

How strange! As others have said, i wouldn't be happy at all with that. I'm really lucky with my yard as it doesn't have 'opening' times and we can come and go as we please. (I've been known to go down at 11pm after work on several occasions.) it's only a small yard but i couldn't be on a yard where we had times we had to have the horses sorted out by as i work some awful shifts and mine probably wouldn't have an evening feed if 'closing' times were put in place!
