Well, I was once out riding my safe pony, when I met a young child out walking his small dog on one of those extendable leads. I stopped to let him get his dog in closer but he didn't and started to walk towards me to "pat the pony" and the dog started walking round the back of my pony! I imagined the lead ending up wrapped round us and really didn't want to find out if my pony could do French skipping and had to ask the child to shorten the lead! It could have ended up really badly.

I had a horrible experience with a dog walker, she was walking about 6 dogs, this was up the South downs area, there were cows in the field, so all dogs should've been on leads anyway.
All the dogs bar 2 were off there leads, I didn't know they were there until i came trotting up around the corner and all of the other dogs surrounded us and we're barking, biting at my boys tail and feet.
She eventually got them all on leads. I said to her they shouldnt be off their lead as there is cows in the field and it's a bridleway! She was apologetic and I carried on, I went around in a loop so I could come back around for a canter and all the dogs were off the lead again!! So it happened all over again! She started shouting and swearing at me, saying why was I still there??
Worst thing is there were even signs dotted around on the fencing saying please keep your dogs on a lead!
I managed to find her dog walking company online and reported her to the police, I didn't see her go back up that area again after that.

My friend was out hacking yesterday and a couple’s off lead dog came running at her horse barking it’s head off. It was only tiny and although her horse is fine with dogs, she was worried he might injure the dog if it got under his feet. So she got off, to stand in between dog and horse. Owners eventually got dog back and passed her… upon which she noticed the dog still wasn’t on the lead. So she suggested it might be a good idea to put it back on the lead, on a well used bridleway, upon which the woman told her “perhaps if you could ride, you wouldn’t have had to get off” 😳🤯 I won’t repeat how the rest of the conversation went…

I just think people have no idea of what their dogs are capable of or what could happen as a result of them being out of control.

Same friend sent me this today with the caption “I suppose this happened because he couldn’t ride his bike” 🤣 funny but actually terrifying! Wouldn’t fancy coming across this lot on horseback either tbf 😰
Oh my god! - I hope he reported that...........

That’s video is awful. Particularly as those malis were only pups , so young to show such aggression. I think one had a pop at its owner when he was trying ti grab it 😡
Agreed. And not even a collar on them! Mine never wear collars but honestly they had no idea that being able to catch litter mate (I assume) malis might ever be necessary?

I got way too invested in it and watched the follow-up video he did. I believe he has reported it to the relevant authorities; he purposely didn’t comment too much on what exactly is happening so I assume he’s been advised not to in case it affects any resulting court case. He cut the original video short as they swapped details so he was protecting identities; they didn’t walk off, they stayed and reluctantly gave their names and address.

His reaction both at the time and afterwards was a damned sight more measured than mine would have been..! His calmness during the incident probably went in his favour actually. If he’d been screaming and shouting it could have been a lot more frenzied. Absolutely terrifying.

They were/are both “rescues” being walked by “experienced” fosterers and have since found homes.
If you pause it on the correct frame you can see a company name on the back of the guys hi vis jacket, and 2 minutes FB stalking will reveal all…

I thought an attack like that would surely mean PTS for the dogs? Or is that only in a fatal attack?

It was bad enough that a human was bitten but it makes me shudder to think if it had been a horse ☹ or a child

I’d seen the logo on the back of the jacket but hadn’t got as far as finding a good enough frame to read it.
i know it’s easy to get caught out my dogs have gone off after deer in the past and I’ve had the devil of a job to get them back and under control. They should have been more proactive at the very least had only one or two of the lead at a time, not all of them at the same time. I have a problem with my terrier, she’s in a harness so i can grab her, I keep her close to me if we are in an area where people can just pop up and my default position is to put her on a lead.
Does anyone know when the MTB incident happened? Is it recent?

It was a couple of months ago I think. That’s when it was posted anyway.

No dog is infallible, they’re animals at the end of the day. But from that video, I got the feeling the woman knew there was going to be an issue, shouting “please stop!” at the start. Why take that risk with 3 off lead drivey dogs like that? Could have ended m so much worse for the cyclist.

Also their FB presence has been locked down (I tried to have a good old stalk last night!) and website etc is down so I assume they’ve had a lot of backlash online over it. I’d prefer the police to just deal with it personally. I wonder if we’ll ever find out what happened.

I used to rent a field that had a footpath on the other side of the hedge and the local twunt (already reported for letting his dogs roam common land next to his house, after they chased me on horse towards a 40 mph road) used to let his dogs come into my field. I was there one day and let rip to him. My pony was literally throwing himself to the ground in panic and he was the one GOOD with dogs! Obnoxious man. Dog warden contacted me after police report and did inform me that livestock includes horses under the Dangerous Dogs Act and that legally I could shoot them. Not sure how many people carry a rifle when poo picking, but I know I don't. I did ask if I could shoot the owner... More recently another livery spotted our field neighbour using my field to let her dog roam free. I haven't ever seen it and she said she hasn't after she said something, but I did find a dog's ball in there the other week. They can come and ask for it if the want it. I've found over the years that more and more bottomholes with dogs think the world owes them something and revolves around them and the rest of us are terribly oversensitive.
