I am thinking of getting one of these for Henry, we have been walking in the Peak District, and I think it's only fair he shares a little of the load next time:D Any recommendations?

Ah yes, The Noble Spaniel of the Mountains pose:D

I was thinking more along the lines of his poobags, wet wipes, water bowl and lead (when he can be off lead of course) than actual food!

Consensus on the husky forums is that the Ruff Wear ones are the best. Most of the others only use a single breast strap and look a bit ungainly, the Ruff Wear ones have a fitted shoulder harness and generally look a bit more awesome. :D The biggest one has built in water bladders and other silly features. :p

I saw the Ruffwear ones, but the prices for them are terrifying - would have to try Ebay! I like the sound of lead though...:D

Here he is with my littlest brother - they are not close to the edge, it just looks like they are!

And here we are at the highest point in the Peak District. I know I look awful, but was in agony at that point, my hips had given up and every step was painful:o:rolleyes:

He also got chased by a sheep (yes, you are reading that right) which I feel would have been very beneficial to him:D

LOL - the only quick fix I am hoping for is a slightly lighter rucksack for me!

Slinky - Henry did run after a couple of sheep for about three steps, when they basically wandered up almost nose to nose with him then turned around and ran off again (it was almost like an ovine sting operation!) Then he realised how much bigger than him they were and came back to hide behind me! However, before anyone shouts I do realise that three steps are three too many and we shall be doing some intensive training before we go again, and I am getting a carabiner to hook his double ended lead onto so I can be hands free scrambling up and down rocks.

I was looking at the EzyDog one, quite like the look of that one:) I like the fact that the lead clips onto it, I don't normally use a harness but for this kind of walking I quite like them.

I was going to suggest the Ezydog one (I stock them  but am sure you can find them cheaper elsewhere...) although when we put one on Herman to take pictures for the site, it seemed a bit loose... He was only about 6 months old though then and the small was too small and the large was too big, really.

If you want me to check the measurements for you then let me know. (Also, let me know what sort of prices you've seen if you do decide to go for that one ;) )

Thank you Molly - I will take you up on that as soon as I can find a tape measure:)

They appear to be coming in at around the £29-£31 mark at the moment, there or threabouts, but once I know what size he needs I can do proper internet hunting for the best price:D Ideally I'd like to try one on him, but no idea where would stock one, they are a bit specialist really.

the ruffwear ones are def the best but you do pay the price for them, however i was in pets@home on saturday and they have started there own range that look quite good for £35 im not sure on the sizing though but they look like they are good quality and the backpack is actually detachable from the harness which i thought was really good. we have been on the lookout too as my OH does a lot of munroeing with our dog and she currently wears a ruffwear cloud chaser 'jacket' so we need the harness to allow for breathability. we are going to take her into pets@home and try there one on and see how it sits.

The Ezydog one is much more sensibly priced, I may have to do some research also. :) I'm just really put off the cheaper ones with a single neck strap, I imagine they would ride up and choke an active dog. I also need one I can clip a lead to, plus it looks like you can hoik them up over rocks and things with it (essential as madam refuses to climb or jump over stiles ).

I can't wait for winter - sod the backpack, I'm bringing my shopping home on a sled. :D

I really like the look of the Ruffwear ones but I can't justify that price ATM. :( I am thinking of doing the coast to coast walk with him next year though, so for that I will probably invest to make sure he has the absolute best for such a long walk:)

Interesting about the PAH one, it is my day off today so perhaps I will pop in and take a look!

Just don't be tempted by the leads in PAH's 'active' range as well, the elastic in mine went ping after just a week. Sticking with ManMat ones from Snowpaw from now on...

Try eBay ;)

Both our dogs have them, they carry their own water and bottles, poo bags, treats and anything else we need.
We got ours off eBay they are no fancy make or design but are sturdy with plenty of stable straps and pockets and our girls walk so much better when they're wearing them! :)
