Bought our Lurcher a Tuffie dog bed as he loves to sprawl. Its hopefully going to be the next stage up from his crate which he loves but is sadly fast out growing.
Thing is he doesnt like the Tuffie and it wasnt cheap, so I am looking for a rectangualr shaped bed with sides that I could hopefully put the Tuffie into. He loves lying on his back in his crate so Im thinking he would prefer sides on his bed and also if I put a blanket on it, it will keep it 'all together'.
Has anyone seen a sturdy dog bed that is big and rectangular?

Thanks for the link.
My Tuffie is 140cm long! so it wouldnt fit in them Im afraid, looks like I either make him something in wood, Miss DIY here

Why cant they do a rectangular plastic bed, instead of the usual oval one.

Do you have either Tesco Online delivering, they have great crates or do you know anyone with a hen crate which you could take the top off? We have one of those in their kennel which has two old sofa cushion in and the dogs love it!

Oooh thanks, off to look at Tesco now!
Sorry to sound thick but what does a Hen crate look like and where would I find one, its for in my house... would it be ok?

No, they wouldn't be the smartest thing to have in the corner of the lounge, sorry, bad idea for that! The Tesco boxes are what they deliver your goods in; the drivers always say they see more in garages and on farms than ever make it back to the store!
If you want something tidy, what about the oval plastic dog beds which his bed could easily fit into and wouldn't look too out of place either? You can get them at any pet shop or on one of the markets and they last forever so if you got it large enough he'll grow into it; would probably be less than £20 too.
Here's Tess with her pups, she's whippet size -

This is our hen crate which makes a great puppy box too and you get some idea how big and ugly it is! -

Awww love the piccys, especially Widget trying to fit in the basket, that is a great photo.
Boris is nearly 8 mth old and is a Deerhound x and hes getting big, his backs towards the top of my thigh! Just when do they stop growing

and he hardly eats

Ive seen plastic beds 40inch wide, which are massive but he doesnt curl up, he lies on his side with his long spindly legs straight outwards or on his back showing all his teeth

The piccy with Tess makes the bed look massive, is that just a bog standard plastic bed?
The Hen crate looks perfect, I could always cover it with something I suppose.
Thanks for all your help.

Sounds like you might have another to years of growing then!
Just measured the blue bed, it's 36 inches wide and was bought for Wish who is also deerhound x but nowhere as big as your guy. Most of our lurchers sleep either upside down or legs straight out or even like a swan with nose tucked into the crook between hind leg and their ribs!
Good idea about covering the crate though (you can tell how house proud I'm not then!)

LOL, Im certainly not houseproud, Boris has taken over! Id jump at the chance of a hen crate, where do you think I could get one from?
And as for Boris' size, Im feeling scared now!! I was hoping he wouldnt get much bigger, just fill out.
Ive always wanted a dog and always fancied a Cocker Spaniel but I fell for this cute tiny hairy grey pup who now fills my sofa! Hes lovely though.

You could look in the Farmers Guardian or have you any poultry farms around you, they might be able to help?
Have to admit, I would hate to be without my lurchers now, they're very special people even if they do take up all the chairs!

My deerhound x does exactly the same and also doesnt like a cushion on the floor without sides to put her legs against! she has a large plastic oval bed with a rectangular pet cushion in and a blanket over the top, they do squidge in the oval beds quite well without gaps round the edge or anything and plenty big enough to stretch right out in!
