Poor old Mumble has been being sick today.

He got out in the night and went downstairs and ate all the cat biscuits left out for the cat. I heard him and went and got him and shortly afterwards he sicked most of them up.

He was sick a little bit more in the morning and then fine all day.

He had breakfast and was fine.

Tonight he has had a vomit fest. He had one great big explosion, followed by three more retching sessions.

He seems ok in himself and I can't imagine what has caused this.

Now, if this was one of my children, I would starve them, let them have water only and watch them. I would never bother with the doctors unless it was going on for a long time and they were in danger of being dehydrated.

So why do I feel mean for not rushing to the emergency vet with him?

Because dogs have better 'puppy eyes' that children? :p

To be honest if it was nearly 24 hours later and he was still being ill, I'd be fairly concerned. I'd imagine the cat food would be well out of his system by now? However, as long as he's still taking in a normal amount of fluid, I'd also stick him on the good old chicken and rice diet for a day or so to see if it settled. If it didn't, I'd be off to add to the vet's Porsche fund. Again.

But yes, the guilt is due to the puppy eyes. Snotty, poorly, wailing kids just don't have the same effect. Some kind of evolutionary fault :p

porsche?? I`ve got a polo thanks very much!
if he`s keeping down water and bright and happy then I wouldnt worry to much - starve for full 24hrs then bland diet - little and often.

I've got to say, I have fantastic vets, and they are not driving round in Porches - although my vet does have a Morgan - but he has had it since he joined the practice in 1989 and I suspect it's a treasured and well loved toy.

It's not quite 24 hours yet - more like 16 - I will keep an eye on him.

fatpony - thanks for the advice - he is bright and happy (well sleepy - but this is bed time). We haven't given him any food tonight, so we'll starve him tomorrow morning and see how he does.

He might just have irritated his gut, so a bland diet for a couple of days to let him settle down might help. My vet also advised natural yoghurt as a good alternative to ProKohlin when Henry had the runs, as although it doesn't have the *ahem* binding agent, it will help replenish the gut flora.

Hope he feels better soon!
