Dog bike baskets

I am looking at getting a bike and plan to take my terrier cycling. i am hoping for him to run along side, but i am also aware that i have to build it up and dont want him to get sore paws! So i was looking at dog bike baskets, they seem to be fabric or wicker, and wicker you can get a wire top. does any one have any experience or tips?

I have got a little terrier and I got my bike basket from Halfords. I have a mountain bike and the basket is a wire one. I put a towel in the bottom for comfort and off we go!! She thinks she is queen bee as I cycle through the village and she is sat with her paws on the edge of the basket with her nose in the air!!
