Before any one shoots me down, yes i have phoned emergency vet who is stuck on another visit and will take her into the vets as soon as it opens.

But any ideas/ advice, she is an 18mth lurcher, yesterday she started making a rasping sound like something stuck in her throat, but only every now and then, this morning she started doing it loads, just I was saying I would take her to the vets to my husband she brought up a lot of blood. Probably a puddle about the size of my hand

Any ideas, any help, anything to suggest until I can get to vets at 9??

Really worried!!

Has she had access to any cooked bones ? eaten any toys ? anythng else gone missing ? let us know the outcome

If its dark blood then its old and coming from lower down, if its fresh red, its near the top and likely to be a scratch or injury in a young dog, if an old dog was doing that and blood I would think sinister tumour.... don't panic, let us know XX

Been to vets and they are concerned it is the result of mice poison. She won't have been able to eat it directly but she does like to hunt mice so good chance she eats it through finding dead mice at our farm. they think it could be the result of prolonged exposure in small amounts.....

Does anyone know the normal outcome for this? She is having tests as we speak.

Other outcomes are of no concern to you! So don't go down that route xx

They will give her vit K shots to help clot her blood and find out if any damage has been done I suspect, shes young and you acted fast, any concerns phone the vets for a chat, they won't mind an anxious owner phoning :-)

Wish her better XX

One of ours killed and swallowed a dying poisoned rat,she needed vit K by pills for a couple of weeks, and a lepto booster to be safe..she`s fine and had a litter since then.

Oh god, hope she is okay.
An ex of mine had an 18 month old Cocker Spaniel who managed (thanks to his STUPID stepdad!) to get access to a tin full of rat poison - they rushed her to the vets once they realised and thankfully, Lex musn't have eaten that much of it so they gave her Vit K shot, kept her in for a few days and then she was on Vit K pills after. She was none the worse for her adventure after a few weeks.
Fingers crossed
K x
