Hello....don't post in here much but woild appreciate some advice.

We have a 2 year old jack russell who has always been wry of certain people (others he is fine with)

Sometimes he shows this fear with agression but really he is all teeth and no trousers and a mummys boy!

He seems to be anxious....almost as if he can't relax sometimes and we wondered if there is anything feed wise we can give him to just chill him out a bit.

One example is.
Last weekend we had people over ...one little girl is scared of dogs so we shut him in one part of the house. Although he did not make any noise and didnt seem stressed or worried when we went to check on him (several times) when we got him out his skin had gone red on his joints ...

he does have problems with his skin as well which the vets treat him for and have always been told its mites / skin allergy but wonder if anxiety could be a reason for it as well. Hence asking for advice really.

I know there is obviously calming products for horses and wondered if there is anything we can do/ give the dog.

I hope thats fairly clear.

Appreciate any advice

DAP collars, diffusers, skull cap and valarian, rescue remedy, maybe along those lines. They can bite/lick at them selves if anxious/stressed causing skin problems....he may have been licking, have u asked for an anti allery test to rule out some factors?

He does lick himself but the bets said that it is mites ie.all dogs have them but some are affected worse than others.

Sorry to be thick but what are DAP collar/ diffuser/ skull cap?

DAP diffusers are great, you just plug them in like an air freshener (you can't smell them) and they get to work. I thouht it was just a con but it really did work. Top Spec do a dog calmer that is very good too. It is the same with horses, it's very much trial and error.

Good luck.

The vet thinks he has an allergy to mites, you need to use a regular preventative mite treatment if you have not already done so...i.e stronghold e,t,c bought from the vets to cover fleas, ticks, mites e,t,c, you could aslo try garlic capsules, alot of people use thes for skin problems, meant to be a good a good prevenative remedy against fleas, mites, e,t,c, also good for boosting the immunity which can be a root problem of skin disorders.
Also good for cooling them down if a skin problem flairs is sulphur blocks which you place in the water bowl to dissolve(pet shop) will sell them.

The DAP...is a calming pheromone which is released into the air, it comes in the form of plug in's and collars for around the neck.
Skull cap tables are a natural anti anxiety/calmer remedy...u could pobably get all of the above of the net cheaper than the vets.

Thanks for that

Which to be honest does work most of the time (until its wearing off) but at the same time he is a bit stressy as well...which we think probably doesnt help his problems.
