Dog calmers?

Are they any use? We adopted another dog a couple of months ago. He was terrified of his shadow when he arrived. He’s improved lots but is still quite skittish and unsure of OH (and any other male) which is a shame as OH is the one who does most with the dogs and the others all definitely prefer him!

With time and patience, he’s gaining confidence but I’d like to make things as easy for him as possible as he’s had such a bad start. I’ve never used a calmer before but just wondered if a daily one might make him feel more relaxed. Has anyone ever used one and if so, do you have any you’d recommend?

I used to use Zylkene and a thundershirt around 5th Nov and New Years Eve for Obie. However since there was a regular shoot one autumn at the back of the house I've not had to use them as unless it's a massive firework he's not bothered anymore. They def helped, although which one was the most use I'm not sure. He went from shaking and whining to sleeping and being calm.
