Dog Flaps !

When I had one for my whippets I just stuffed them through it a few times, then called them back in

Had to hold the door slightly open for the first couple of times, but they soon got the hang of it

leave it open for the first few times (prop it if it wont stay open), then put him through it and call him back through with treats/toy etc

Gosh, Popple got the hang of how to use our cat flap far too easily, and the neighbours' one too

(it's ok, they like her little visits

) Due to such over enthusiastic use, it is now broken though, and we're picking up the new door tomorrow

He has had it proped open all day and tonight I have been sitting one side of it with the box of treats getting very excited calling him in but he just looks at me as if im mad ! Im sure as you all say it just takes time, as long as he has mastered it by the time the cold weather comes, I dont want it proped open for to long !!!

LOL I have a mental image of him saying 'what on earth are you doing owner

Close the flap and leave him out there, I bet he soon works out how to get into the warm comfortable house

Sorry, that sounds mean, but it would work

Does anyone use dog flaps for larger breeds?

My daughter once got stuck fast in a cat door when we locked ourselves out and fed her through to unlock the door!

My lurcher (who was about 25" at the shoulder at this stage...) used to fit through the dog flap designed for whippets (who should be 18" at the shoulder)

He had gone through it from when he was an 8 week old puppy, and saw no reason why he still shouldnt fit through

Thanx everyone, after lots of treats and an evening of myself and the other half calling the dam dog from either side he now well and truely has the hang of it. Its so nice to see him in the garden whenever he wants. You were all right just needed time and to see him mummy and daddy to look like total prunes first !!!
