Tyson is losing his coat like mad! (I hear the technical term for this might be 'blowing his coat' ?? )

He's leaving huge great clumps of it all over the house, if he lies on the floor then gets up, I have half a dog left on my carpet! Im brushing him every day and its coming out in blooming fistfuls.. You cant eat your dinner in the front room even straight after hoovering, for fear of a dog hair baked potato!

Is there anything I can do to help him out a bit and speed up this horrible process? he just has so much... hair! Are there any special brushes? Would a professional groom help?

Mum usually "strips" her GSD - literally whenever she's nearby starts pulling out the loose hair, same as we do to the Border T's; the only bit she doesn't like having done so much is her knickers :o :D

Just make sure you either do it outside or with a bin bag handy!

A hot bath, a thorough coat rake and a Furminator to finish, then coat raking daily (I don't like to use the Furminator often, it can take the top coat with it). :)

The proper blaster wotsits are amazing, can be bought for about £90 on eBay, if I had the outside space I'd invest in one in a flash.

Tell me more about the blaster wotsit... What is it exactly? and a furminator?

*goes off to google*

No wonder i've been struggling, all I have is one of those pets at home brushes with a soft side and a not so soft side... :o He looks like a half plucked chicken at present.. and he's going off to stay with Cayla at the end of this week and I *really* dont want him cover her house in all his mingin' hair :(

Get thee a rake, woman! :p

Furminators are amazing if used sparingly, cheapest on Amazon (don't pay Pets at Home prices, ridiculous).

Right, I've just bought me a rake and a furminator...

In the event that they do not arrive in the next couple of days.. a professional grooming sesh will help him not look like such a pathetic half plucked waste of space, will it?

I'm deeply concerned for Caylas property, at this stage..

Eta: Btw, how's Ricoh settling in?

Lol, what B said for the hair, but u cannot beat a dath and blast whilst raking that hair out.
Im sure I can manage to do if if u don't:p
I got the 2nd call too:o but yesterday saw me running around like araging bull then turning into one, I was clipping cats nails when u called......I will call you:D

I'll get the same amount out tomorrow, and the next day, and the next... you can imagine the state of my carpet.

I'll forgive him though because his arrival means that we can now leave them alone in the house, uncrated, for up to two hours so far in the safe knowledge that they spend the time sound asleep. :D

Very few ishoos with him so far, he needs a few more manners on the lead and to stop 'speaking' to passing dogs but nothing that isn't already improving. :)

Pah! Don't be worrying about a bit of hair, Molly pup spurted blood all over the place when i dumped her on Cayla :p

BTW Cayla i tried to ring you last week woman and you clearly don't understand that it is good manners to return calls..... sheeeeeeesh:cool::rolleyes::D

I agree with the rake and furminator - also a rubber curry comb will loosen a lot more.

As you are 'spending' treat yourself to a Dyson Animal vacuum wonderful for pat hair.

I will say that eating a meal in this house without dog hair would be totally alien!

Rake in one hand, Furminator in the other, x-tie your dog and get stuck in. I bath quite a lot too. Furminators do break hair but you're not showing him so no worries there.
And plucking like a chicken several times a day :o

Glad he's settled in well BC :)

... I'm pleased to say I understood everything Cayla said on the phone.. but I do think she struggled with my Essex accent at times  :p

If the furminator doesn't arrive in time, i'll try and get him in at the groomers before I leave him with you, Cayla :)
