Hi,

I have had my dog insured with Sainsburys for the past year. He was covered for up to £3000 vet fees per condition, plus personal liability and advertising/reward costs sould he go missing. If I made a claim I had an excess of £75. I was paying £9.90 a month for this.

I had a renewal letter come through a couple weeks ago and I was rather suprised to see my monthly premium has almost doubled to £17.33 plus now when I make a claim I have to pay the excess plus 10% of the claim. Whilst this last bit doesn't worry me too much, the fact that my premium has gone up by so much when I have never made a claim does. My dog is only 4 this year so it's not like he's entering old age.

Anyway, point of this post. Please could you lovely people recommend me a new insurance company. There's so many, half of which I have never heard of and I don't want to end up with the E and L of the dog insurance world!

Thank you.

Ive always insured my dogs with PetPlan, never had any issues. They are not the cheapest but offer lifetime cover, you can claim more than once for the same condition, most vets are happy to deal with them directly and they have always settled my claims promptly. Would happily recommend for doggy insurance.

Petplan wont insure him as he comes to work with me :(

my dogs insured with tesco insurance and weve claimed about 20 times in 8 yrs .they pay the vet directly and have never had any problems . we pay £60 excess per claim and our premium is still under £20 a month.:)

We also insured our dogs with tesco insurance. Up to now we only claimed twice in total but never had any problems, they have always been reliable.

We use direct line, just an excess with no percentage to pay as they get older unlike loads of policies I looked at. Without checking £6000 i think lifetime allowance per condition.

Payed out twice with no problem at all.

I changed from Petplan to Tesco as realised I really didn't need to be paying for the life cover as I would rather cover a ongoing condition myself. I felt it was unlikely my dog would get anything long term and I would question if it was right to treat anyway. You wouldn't be paying the excess plus 10% I am pretty sure this is a co-insurance clause and it would be say £75 or 10% whichever is the greater for each and every claim.
I am not a fan of this hence why I chose Tesco as they have a flat excess.
