We currently have Fizz our JRT insured with Direct Line and we are due to renew at the beginning of August.
When we first took out insurance with DL it was £9 per month over the years it has gone up and we are currently paying £15 per month. Mum spoke with Pet Plan and they quoted £20 per month for basic cover.

I may be a bit out of touch with pet insurance but i thought that was quite a lot for a small dog?
What do you think is a reasonable amount to pay monthly for basic cover?

Obviously i'm going to shop around to get the best price but was wondering who people use?
Who would you recommend or say to stay clear of?
(PM me if you prefer).

Thanks

I've moved away from Direct Line now as they refused to quote for recreational mushing or agility training, put the price up in the second year necessitating cancelling the policy and re-registering as a new customer to get the discounted price (resulting in a 14 day period with no cover) and they have an average 8-10 week wait to process claims. Also they put my car insurance up and couldn't match another quote despite being with them for years. Also they spell my dog's breed wrong. Grr. :p

I've moved them both to Animal Friends and all good so far, by far the best cover I could find for the price, haven't tried claiming yet though.

Exactly the same problem with DL!!

Think we put the details into "Compare the Market" and we went with Esure as they did the level of cover we wanted for a decent price.

Prices sound about right and the premiums do rise as the animal gets older but it is a good idea to shop around for best prices. Be careful though, any new company will exclude any condition, illness or injury that the dog has previously suffered from regardless of how long ago it was. People don't always realise this and then find that they are not covered when they need help. Also try to get a policy that offers "cover for life". Some policies/companies will exclude a condition after a year or only let you claim for a certain amount of time for a condition or up to a certain amount in £s.
Make sure you read the small print, sometimes its best to stick with what you already have especially if you have made claims or your pet has an ongoing condition.
Hope this helps!
